Suspension options?

Hi everyone,

just wondering why options there are other than the Icon Stage 2 and Readylift 3/2?

Disregarding the need for fenders, will all the F150 raptor front end parts just bolt up?

Will the likes of BDS or BajaKits work (at least for the front)?

I’d really like to put 35’s on as a minimum but ideally 37’s or larger.

I have just ordered a GCC/UAE spec 2020 expedition and after using it for a year in the UAE I’ll be exporting it to Papua New Guinea where it will be used off-road for the majority of the time including on roads with giant potholes, ruts, sections missing etc

I believe there are bilstein and king options (only seen one post referencing new king suspension). I have the icon lift with 285/75r18s and think they’re probably pushing as large as you can go. I seriously doubt you can get 37s on an expedition and definitely can’t fit a spare that size (mine barely fit and I think it’s probably because my limited doesn’t have some options like hd tow, that could impact the space).

I think the only bumper you can use is the Baja Forged ones from lge-cts. They have a new bumper coming out in 4 months with recovery points, so I’d highly recommend waiting on those. I’d love it if the bumper came up higher and connected to the front frame, but I’m in the PNW and deal with snow and mountains, not sand or poor flat roads.

If you get the raptor parts to work, please post and share. I have read that much of the skid plates can be use and barely modified (a drill here or there).

Note that there’s a lot of discussion around tuning expeditions with large tires above 33s. I’m going to try updating my truck so the speedometer is accurate, but don’t have hopes.

You would be better buying a Raptor and putting a shell on it. The Gen3’s have a 37” tire option from the factory.

You've come to the right place, but the wrong vehicle perhaps... The Expy is good, but limited off-road. ICON is the real deal, Bilsteins a close second with 34.3-34.5s doable with some minor trimming and proper backspacing at full flex. Just check a lot of my recent threads, posts and questions along with Fozzy's (and others).

Its all light duty truck stuff, I really think you have the wrong vehicle for the extreme stuff you have planned. My opinion. I love my 18 Expedition, but its not a heavy duty off road unit by any means....

It appears that F150 parts should fit up front.
I'm going to install a lift spindle off of my F150 as a test pretty soon here and see if alignment checks out.
My intent is running 35's min.

The rear is the huge problem. It will have to be totally custom. Either a solid axle swap, a ridiculously huge lift moving the diff below the frame or custom arms and axle shafts. Buy a Raptor, TRX or a 3/4 ton with a full Carli kit on it. You would have a better vehicle and probably save some money and headache.

Probably a long shot but has anyone had a first hand look at the new Raptor 5 link rear suspension? Maybe this could be made to fit?

Unfortunately no, you would need a whole new frame. The rear frame of the expy uses a porthole for the axle. It would prevent the solid axle from having any usable travel.

Finally got around to throwing these spindles on. Alignment checks out, however there is a bit of extra positive caster which shouldn't be an issue.

Did you guys check out Redtail Overlands build? It has Raptor lowers with ICON UCA’s. F-150 bumpers fit with some modifications and some require relocation of the CAC. Lots of fender cutting and custom fenders. Pretty awesome build, but a Raptor would still be 10 times better. Set up with a bed tray you would an amazing rig for hitting the desert or overlanding.
