I did the recall on my 2019 Ford expedition
Unfortunately after I did the recall on the pcm. My car now it’s shutting on gear 5.6.7 and 10.
But I fell the car more smother on the gear 1to 4.
I report already to the dealer but unfortunately the dealer next to my house it’s a very. Complicated and difficult to help me out to fix this new issue.
I already call ford direct report everything to them. And I’m bring my car to a different ford dealer.
That’s what you find online.
After a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) recall update on your 2019 Ford Expedition, experiencing shaking or shuddering, particularly in certain gears (like 5, 6, 7, and 10 at low speeds), is a reported issue by some Ford Expedition owners

.
Here's why this might be happening and what you can do:
Why it might be happening
- Adaptive Learning Incompatibility: The new PCM update might not be perfectly compatible with the transmission's adaptive learning, leading to harsh shifts or shuddering, particularly at low speeds when the transmission is adapting to the new programming.
- Pre-existing Transmission Issues: The PCM update might exacerbate an underlying problem with the transmission, such as low or degraded transmission fluid, worn clutch packs, or issues with shift solenoids, according to JustAnswer.
- Torque Converter Shudder: Some owners report experiencing shuddering in higher gears, particularly at low RPMs, which can be related to the torque converter not locking up smoothly.
- Specific Recall Issues: In some cases, the recall itself might have introduced or worsened a specific issue that affects the transmission's performance.
- Recontact the Ford Dealer:
- Explain that the shaking started after the PCM update.
- Refer to the specific recall number (if you know it).
- Inquire if there's a specific post-update procedure or a potential problem with the update on your particular vehicle.
- There might be a related customer satisfaction program (like program 21N08 mentioned in a NHTSA document) providing a free, one-time repair or PCM recalibration, per a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (.gov) document.
- Mention Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs):
- Refer to TSB 23-2123 (which supersedes 22-2139) related to harsh shifting in 10R80 transmissions in certain Ford vehicles, including the Expedition.
- Ask the dealer to consult and follow the service procedure steps outlined in the TSB, which may include overhauling the main control valve body and/or performing an adaptive learning drive cycle to correct the condition.
- Check Transmission Fluid:
- Ensure the fluid is at the correct level and isn't burnt or dirty.
- You might consider a fluid flush with the specified Mercon ULV fluid for the 10R80 transmission.
- Reset Adaptive Learning:
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal for approximately 30 minutes to reset the transmission's adaptive learning.
- Drive normally afterward to allow the transmission to re-learn its shifting patterns.
- Scan for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):
- Even if the check engine light isn't illuminated, use an OBD2 scanner to check for transmission-related error codes.
- These codes can help pinpoint the exact cause of the problem, like specific shift solenoid issues or sensor faults.
- Consult a Transmission Specialist:
- If the dealer is unable to resolve the issue, consider seeking help from a reputable transmission specialist for a more thorough diagnosis.
- Don't ignore the issue: Shaking or shuddering can indicate a problem that could worsen over time.
- Safety: If the shaking is severe or affects vehicle control, it's best to avoid driving and arrange for towing, according to JustAnswer
