Just did a complete rebuild because of a guide breakdown. All of the plastic in the oil pan and pickup tube. Caught it the week it broke. It had DNJ timing set ( crap the shop put in ) that I specifically asked for Ford parts. DNJ and Melling and other chains are not “ micro ground smooth on the back of the chain “ that is what “ate thru the guides “
I always could hear a humming noise when I got the truck back, but it ran perfectly for 40k then got weird o2 intermittent lights, the guide let timing fluctuate. Had a start up chain slap and parked it.
I WILL ONLY USE FORD LATEST REDESIGNED FOR ALL BUT THE OIL PUMP. MELLING HVP60 OR HVP40
The truck is perfect again. This picture has two sets, I returned the second one.
After the fact.. DNJ now has redesigned the chain to a “ quiet chain “ ! GTH DNJ….

Ok, so I've got everything but the oil pump and VC gaskets. But here's the thing: I'm not sure I really wanna put these parts on this truck... The tailgate, hood, and the upper fenders need to be repainted because of the aluminum corrosion and clearcoat damage. The front bumper is all marked up and held on by steel wire. Rear bumper is all marked up. Entire suspension is rusty, and now the front ball joints, CVs, and that support arm for the rear axle is almost definitely moving, sometimes when I stop now it feels like I'm getting rear ended. Also wanted to do an e-fan conversion on the truck, but seems pointless now. There's also those two holes in the frame up front where the wheels kick road debris, they'd have to be cut square and patched. It's not that I can't fix all the issues, but by the time I spent all my time and money to do it, I feel like I could run down south and find a better Expedition to put these parts on and really have something clean and bulletproofed.

Of course once it's up here I'll still have to paint and surface shield it, but IMO it's not worth it to dump all my money and time into this one when for the price of all that I could go pick up a clean expy from a southern state with a good body and interior, and even if the motor needs work... I have all the parts now so who cares. I'd like y'all guys thoughts on that plan
I know that feeling. I redid all the moving parts on my truck a few years back (all suspension components, bearings, re-geared the differentials, new axles, etc.) and it felt like a brand new truck for awhile, but the reality of having 200k+ miles on the frame and body is hard to hide. I had meant to keep the truck to 350k but road salt had other ideas.

It's currently a second vehicle but will be moving onto a new owner in the next few months. There comes a point where a major financial and time investment in your current truck would be better spent on a fresher platform.

That's what I'm trying to say pretty much. As it stands all I've done to this truck was struts and power steering lines, I'm not invested in it yet. I see plenty of 3rd gen Expeditions/Navigators for sale down south, some of them in really good shape but dirt cheap because it needs "motor work", which doesn't scare me anymore because I have the parts to rebuild everything except the bottom end. And unless it ran out of oil... Bottom end is probably just fine
