This weekend, like many, I was back to Lowe's for stuffed that always seems needed at the house. I traded my F150 for the 2012 EL Limited at the end of 2014. I drove it for 2 years, then my wife took it, and I traded her Chrysler T&C for a 2013 Fusion 2.0EB.
Anyways, I was on an errand run - groceries, outdoor stuff, etc. I went to Lowe's first, picked up 8 - 5/6x6x8 boards, a 1/4 sheet of drywall and 10 bags of mulch. I only folded down the right rear single seat, and could easily slide the boards up through, they end just behind the forward center console. Then I loaded the 10 bags of mulch behind the left side, and had room for a propane tank and some other stuff back there. I look over an a guy is struggling to tie down a few 8' boards in the back of his Raptor (Wish i drove that instead of the Fusion). He watched me slide the boards and close the truck, seemed surprised!

Previously I was finishing a lot into two bedrooms and the loading guys saw me pull up in the EL, said where are you putting the drywall and boards? I informed them we'd load the drywall first, then everything else on top of the drywall. They said it wouldn't fit. They were amazed as we slid 22 sheets of 4x8 drywall FLAT on the floor - all the seats were folded. Then studs, duct work, hardware and everything else on top. Those guys said that would be a great contractor vehicle - full sheets inside the vehicle, no need to tie down so they don't blow away, and they stay dry. Hard to beat!

The reason I bought the EL. The Expedition was purchased haul people and their stuff around. An extra foot is that much more room for people and stuff.

We went to the gym this morning (just the two of us) and once again we were talking about how nice it was to have so much room, even when we don't have 3 kids and 4 adults in the back.

I use it as a camper. Took all the rear seats out but the small one and built a bed. It's huge, totally comfortable back there and don't have to worry about Grizzlys coming into my tent.

I love the EL for those exact reasons, however I will say. I would never use it for that purpose on a daily basis. You get into a wreck with all that inside the cab, it's far more deadly, not only is it contained inside, but there are also zero retension points making everything loose and extremely dangerous.

Not Expy related, but some 10 years ago I took the 97 Ford Taurus station wagon to the local lumber yard. Loaded it up with 10 bags of cement, 12 10' pt 6x6, some pt 2x12, 8 sheets of lattice on the roof, plus all the other miscellaneous odds and ends to build a pergola.

The yard gate guys were so... astonished?... that they called guys out of the store to look at the idiot overloading a station wagon. :D

It was after that that I started buying more appropriate vehicles for my needs.

I've hauled all sorts of stuff in the EL, including a full-size double reclining sofa, stacks of OSB, and a multitude of commercial fitness equipment. On one trip I managed to get a commercial tbar row, commercial preacher curl bench and a commercial treadmill all in there. (Getting them out was a far bigger challenge.)

I agree.... I haul a ridiculous amount of stuff for the fam and love that it hauls all of my people. The biggest test of my EL was this past April. It hauled over 1 ton of dry concrete bags. I don't recommend it but I didn't have any other choices.

Well Jeff I’m a single guy in my early twenties and I drive this super wheelbase soccer mom wagon.....you can too lol! Some days I miss my short bus expy but I love the EL. When I load up drywall or plywood sheets which is every so often it’s worth it every time.

It was bought for my family - wife and I, 5 kids. Had a boat at the time, so I need to tow as well. Then, with little kids, needed run for a family, plus strollers, bags, stuff. Even for around town. The fact that it doubles as a cargo vehicle is a bonus.

This thread is precisely why I was looking for an EL to begin with. I hauled home a large wooden playset for the kids, had I been in an EL the hatch would have closed fully. I was about 7" short. People dont understand the versatility of them. Short of needing to regularly haul 1500lbs loads or needing to load whatever it is w a fork truck or crane, its nearly perfect for hauling people or stuff with the amount of flexibility it has. A friend of mine who uses an F250 short bed and does sandblast work is seriously considering one instead. Often times he has to cover things if weather is sketchy and would eliminate that us having a second a vehicle that can haul the entire family is never a bad idea.

1 ton is way over the limit, but looks like she survived. I've done the same up to ~1,800 lbs. I felt like my tires were actually the main limiting factor. The Bilsteins were holding up fine with the overload.

I was sitting in a parking lot yesterday, reading a book, while my wife went in a store to return some clothes she'd ordered (and buy some to replace those).

It was raining, kind of cold, the engine was off, the radio still playing, I had two cups of hot beverages (mint coco and cappicino ) and I realized I had a big smile on my face. Just sitting there reading, with a big stupid grin on my face.

We like ours. A lot. And nothing in the back seat other than our gym bags (stopping by on the way home).

All that room? Sort of like a spare tire and jack. Or the P07 .40 IWB on my right side. It's not there to use all the time. It's there to use in case the need arises. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Cookies....LOTS of Cookies. My Wife is a troop leader, so she has this task every year. Used to take my 250. It holds WAY more than my 250 bed, and it is dry and temp controlled.

She loves it!!
