So I went to install my new stereo system in my wifes Expedition this weekend, and I couldn't find any place to mount the damn amplifiers! I got so frustrated that ive put off the project until I can figure this out. I dont want a big 'ol box in the rear. I dont want to mount them somewhere they cant breathe, and I dont want them in plain sight. ive decided to sell the two amplifiers I have, and Im going to buy one single 5 channel amp that I can put under the front seat. Now, I have an Alpine PDX5 in my Lightning, and it works great! But is there another smaller sized 5 channel amp I could maybe use? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Oh yeah... Amps for sale!!! Haha :pepper:

I mounted a Soundstream MC140X in the center console of my truck and then replaced that with some off-name D Class amp when it failed. It is a tight fit, but the MC140X was rated at 4x35 W RMS and the new amp is 4x50W RMS.

My sub amp is mounted under the passenger front seat. The only thing I will caution you on with mounting it there, atleast in the 1st gen trucks, is that the manual lever for moving the seat front and back hangs pretty low and you need to position the amp so it sits between the metal bars. I also built the amp up a little bit (about 1.5") so the vent on the floor would still blow out under the amp.

Mine is a Gen I. 2002 XLT with the third row. Which rules out putting anything under the second row seats. Without building a box and taking up more space in the rear, which I dont want, under the passenger seat is my only option. I just do not have "that" much space under the seat to fit the two large amps I had intended on using. I can fit one Alpine PDX5 without issue, but i'd have to buy one still. Center console wont work for me. Thats where the CD changer and DVD player are.

I'm not sure about the XLT's but what about the space where the factory amp is located with the mach 1 system in the EB's. I replace my sub recently and if i had taken out the factory amp and the mount for the sub there would have been a lot of room to mount amps.

i put my HUGE ass amp between my 2nd and 3rd row on the floor. i still need to lift it up a bit. ive gotten it hot and no problems. you can always put it in the back behind the 3rd row on the floor. or if its just small enough put it on the 2nd row on the hatch cover. thats what i did on my old amp. so when i layed the seat down the amp went into the hole.

I want it hidden. Thats my point. Besides, I really dont want to be melting strollers in the back. Haha, Ive got my first born on its way next month, and I never realized how much crap come with a baby. Its like bringing a small room with you everywhere!
Its cool though. Im justa neat freak and a perfectionist. I hate it when things dont flow or mold into my cars. I dont want it to be an eye sore. Especially when you pop the liftgate and someone says, hey you got a system huh?

i understand that end part. its just lame with the amount of space we have an no where to put anything. haha what you could do is mount the amp on the driver side "wheel well". where the ac unit stuff is at. just put it vertical. dont know how big the amp is. it could work there. but then again eye candy. so idk where it could go. under the pass seat seems to be popular. i just wish the seats folded down like my cousins exploder. when you lay the 2nd row the whole thing lays flat. no need for the flap.

I agree that when loaded down with everything, seats up,third row in, etc... There's not a whole lotta space, but take that third row out and lay the 2nd row down flat and WOW, there's tons of space. I practically moved my entire condo in this thing! And because my Lightning has a tonneau cover on it, I could put more in my Expedition than I could in my truck!! There's just no space for an amp or a sub box. Good thing ive got a hidden sub box. Now the only problem is the amp(s) unless I get myself an Alpine PDX5, Im in trouble...
