I was looking at the 1st gen section and see people talking about it. I went under the dash, and sure enough I can move my pedal quite a bit for sure... Went under the hood, removed the plastic cover, and damn... I have an inch of play in the cable! I don't see how to take up the slack with cable ties by the gas pedal, but see I could do it by the throttle body. Anyone attempt this? What did you use? I have heard everything from zip ties, to crimp connectors, etc. So, I will assume I am not getting WOT when my foot is to the floor then?

Instead of rigging something, why don’t you check with a Ford dealer and see of the throttle cable is still available? If so, replace it.

Back about 3 months, I checked and new cables for my 2000 were still available, so 2 nd gens shouldn't be a problem, about $120.00 retail, you should be able to get a bit off that though.

2003 I believe is cable, 2004 started the fly by wire. Tom, I don't know bout you, but I don't like jury rigging a throttle cable. If something goes wonky with one of those zip ties, I don't want to be trying to stop a barge like ours, that the throttle is stuck on. No, maybe it's just me, but when you have a motorcycle that had a stuck throttle screaming down the street, and your doing everything to make it stop, kill switch, clutch pull in, you get a little gun shy, when it comes to old cables. Every used motorcycle I ever bought to resell got all new throttle/clutch cables. I love zip ties, but not for this, not for me, I'll spend the $120.00.

Here are my zip ties. If one were to fail...... it would fall off, end up on the floor mat and I'll go back to having a slacked throttle cable. The throttle return spring is pretty stiff and slams the throttle plate closed. Not at all concerned.

I like fixing things the right way too, but in this case....... zip ties will work just fine for me.

I checked mine out today, although I have about an inch of slack, when the gas pedal is pressed 100%, I do get 100% wide open throttle, so no reason to change or.modify it. My pedal doesn't look like the 1st gen Expedition's either, its all.plastic and hard as hell to just touch the cable, let alone install some.zip ties on it, but don't have to anyways.
