Throttle Pedal

Over the last few days I have been back and forth between driving my 06 Limited (which I only use for work) and 06 King Ranch (which I drive any other time) and I have noticed quite a bit of a difference in the throttle pedals. On the King Ranch the pedal is (for lack of a better term) soft and I am able to ease into it. In the Limited the pedal is (again, for lack of a better term) hard. Can't really ease into it. Seems as though I have to push harder on the pedal to get it to go anywhere. Obviously, I would prefer for it to be soft so I can ease into it say in stop and go traffic and on hills etc.

So, My question is this. Is there an adjustment on the pedal to soften it up or am I looking at a new pedal assembly or could the issue be something else?

First thing I'd do is pop off cable at throttle body and see if moving throttle body is smooth by rapping the throttle without cable is easy and free. If its rusty or carboned up, it will have to be cleaned/ lubed or possibly replaced. If throttle body is fine you may have a stuck/ dry cable. You can flood the cable with a good cable lube and spray adapter, available at any motorcycle shop. Isolate which parts are causing your problem first. As always report back. Oh yeah also be sure your tps switch is free and working right on your throttle body.

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say cable. The connection between the pedal and the throttle body is electronic so no cable unless you are referring to the wires.

Sorry Rw, I've been doing so many first edition posts, I didn't realize your year! I believe its 2004 that had the last cable. Yours is electronic. The possibility as I stated is you may have an issue with the throttle body itself. De- carbon it, and check it for proper smooth operation. The stalling issues are usually on later vehicles, inside the throttle body is a motor housing that electrically controls open/ closing of throttle. Run a dtc codes test and see if any codes have been stored in computer. Report back what you find.

There is a non-serviceable return spring in the pedal assembly that you are pushing against. There are a handful of non-OEM replaceable units starting at about $150. Perhaps your Limited's hinge or pivot point needs a spray of lube. Might have some carpet fibers or muck limiting its normal operation.

Not sure what kind of work you do but when I'm wearing heavy work boots, all of my accelerator pedals are easier to push verses driving with tennis shoes. Hope it could be a simple as that.

Thanks moose and Flex for the suggestions. I will look into both and report back later this afternoon. As old as the truck is and the miles that are on it (186,000) probably wouldn't be a bad idea to tackle a cleaning on the throttle body anyway.

Not sure if I will get any DTC codes or not, check engine light hasn't tripped on since I bought the truck. One never knows though.

If you read this forum, you see time and again that your expy can Trip a code, but not the light. A cheap reader will do, or stop by an auto zone or oreillys. They'll do it free!

Found a thread http://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/p0506.29651/#post-239102 on here that says it could be as simple as a dirty throttle body. I have it off the truck now and it is quite dirty inside.


Going to clean it up real good and reset the code. Drive it a couple of days and see what happens. Other possible issue seem to be quite expensive to repair.
