We just bought a 1997 Expedition 4x4 with a 5.4 engine. I live in Canada so it has 399,000 kilometers on it. In human language that's 248,000 miles (I'm still a fan of the Imperial System and we prefer to use it). That sounds like a good lot of miles but the motor sounds like it has a lot of good miles 
There's some rust and dings but the interior is fine. We like it better so far than the Explorer we had... Less road noise; a little wider and more stable wheel base; rides like a Lincoln (Explorer rides like buckboard); more roomy; lots of power.
Nearly everything works but there are a few things that need to be tended to, and that's why I joined this forum. Why slug repairs out on my own when we can put our heads together in a forum? I don't have any pictures yet but will post something when I do.
