towing issues

I have a 2010 expedition 4 x 4 17" wheels
I tow a boat that weighs 3200 lb plus a dual axle trailer with surge brakes

here is my issue, I get a lot of shimmy from side to side and tire flex

seams to be all over the place and get sucked in by tracker trailers as they go by

thoughts?

max out the tires on air pressure both truck and trailer....

check your swaybar bushings...

my boat is 600lbs heavier and i don't have any problems but im running 10 ply tires that might be the difference,

you may have to move the axels on the trailer and put more weight on the truck also

cant use a WDH with surge brakes, plus they are hard to find for a boat trailer any ways

I second the tire pressures and the way the weight is distributed on the trailer. You want about 15% is the trailer weight on the hutch.

Sorry to jump in and threadjack BUT If i was towing a 4k lb camping trailer what should my air pressure be? I thought if you had it maxed out, it makes the ride worse not better? Sorry but confused on this one.

what load rating are your tires???

the guys at the tire shop that did our trailer tires put the air to like 70, i think it was. it was at either 70 or 90. i was like HOLY CRAP! no wonder theres no wear on the out side. i get the tires dirty and when im on the street the dirt stays on the out side of the trailer. what ever. nothing bad to them. i can pack that little trailer full of heavy gear and not a problem.

Check the max pressure on the sidewall. Are you talking about the tires on the truck or trailer?

side wall for trailer. as for the truck. depends on your tire. the trucks "recommend" psi is on the inside of the door jam. but if your going to tow a LOT of weight put those tires up to the max it says. or just below it for safety reasons.
