My 05 came with a tire pressure monitoring system which uses the electronic senders that are part of the valve stem. I replaced my OEM 17" wheels with a set of 07 18" OEM wheels & tires off an Eddie Bauer model Expy. They were take-offs as the guy went to 20" wheels. The new wheels do not have sensors according to the guy who sold them to me, I can tell they don't have the metal valve stems my 05 came with.

Anyway I put the new wheels on and I was fully expecting the see the TPMS light come on as I did not swap the old sensors onto the new wheels. Surprisingly no light, I drove around for a good 1/2 hour and nothing. I know the warning light works as the little pictue of the tire lights up when starting the car but immediately goes off with all the other warning lights. So why would it not be warning me that there is no signal from the TPMS senders? Anyone know more about this system?

im thinkin the newer wheels have the sensors in them... there are two styles im aware of. the valve stem style and the sensor is hooked the wheel with a band in the center of the wheel

The local Ford parts dept. says the 05 only came with the valve stem style sensors, the later model years came with sensors that are banded to the center of the rim. I'm told the banded sensors will not work with my computer as the signal is different.

It took a day of driving around town before the TPMS system picked up that the wheels were not sending signals. What now happens is when I start the car the warning light on the dash lights up and stays on when all the other lights turn off, then it flashes about 10 times before going out. I can live with that if that is all that happens as I'm not a fan of the TPMS system. Hopefully nothing more goes on with the computer or further warning lights or sounds.

Update, I have put about 500 miles on the car since removing the TPMS sensored wheels, here is an update as to the warning lights I get.

Not sure what triggers it but only on occasion do I get the yellow tire icon light that stays on after all the other warning lights go out, it flashes 10 times then goes out. Most of the time I get no light at all. So far no other warnings come up.

I have also read in some Ford related articles on the TPMS that the internal non-replaceable battery only lasts on average 5 years, mine being an 05 proabbly means they would be dead soon anyway. I'm going out on a limb here and leaving them off the car........Yes that means taking responsibility for myself in making sure my tires are properly inflated. Sorry federal govt.
