In the near future, I'll be upgrading the rims/tires on my 04 EB Expy to newer ford rims/tires, likely 20s. My question is this: Am I able to program the newer style sensors (bands and sensors) to my old system on the 04, which would typically have the valve-stem mounted sensors?

Thanks!

I put 18" 2010 f150 wheels on mine and they would not work. The newer wheels did not have the band type sensors in them. I wound up having to put the old sensors in the new wheels. It all works just fine.

Thanks for the response. To move things to the newer style, would the old truck accept the bands and sensors, and program to them?

Will the valve style sensors definitely fit into 2012 fx4 wheels? Need to be sure before buying this set I found on Craigslist.

Thanks!

Hi Cory,

Thanks in advance for your help! I have a new set of 2012 TPMS sensors already installed in the wheels i'm putting on the truck--If you could check with them as to whether or not those sensors could be programmed to the 04 Expedition, that'd be awesome too.

Thanks!

Hi Cory,

Thanks in advance for your help!...
You’re welcome, Kevin. My adviser said you can’t use the newer style sensors with an older vehicle; they aren’t compatible. The 2012MY F-Series rims use a valve stem style sensor, but it’s a different style then what was used on the 2004MY Expedition.

Thanks, Cory!

Can your advisor confirm that the 2004 style sensors will for into the 2012 fx4 wheels? I bought them, so I'm hoping the sensors will move over!
Does it make sense to move over the original sensors (likely original to 2004, and 8years old) to the new wheels, or would it be best to buy new ones? I will be getting rid of the factory 17s anyways.

If your not having problems with the old ones, I would switch them over.

make sure they get put on the truck in the same position...front right sensor gets put in new rims on the front right...and you wont have to worry about anything getting programmed

yes it makes sense...
I sent another note to my adviser, guys.

Edit: He said the parts weren’t designed to fit together, so he wouldn’t be able to confirm if they would work or not.

Though that's the easy fix...I like the feature working to know when my tires are low...especially having 22s on wife car and 26s on the expedition
