I have a 2019 Platinum that has a 2-3 second delay when shifting from drive to reverse and vice versa. This results in me not being able to apply gas power immediately upon shifting. I also experience a rough shifts into drive sometimes after starting the vehicle for the fist time. The dealership says it's normal for the new 10-speed transmission.

What do you think?

I have noticed an annoyingly long time for switching from drive to reverse as well. I hate it because I always back into my driveway. It's almost like I come to a complete stop, shift to reverse, then wait, then you think it's in so give it a little gas, then it kicks in

Not as bad as 2-3 seconds, but definitely noticeable especially when you are in a hurry. Maybe it's because turning the knob is faster than using a actual shifter and it makes you feel like it takes longer to shift? I have noticed hard shift as well, it also comes with a loud noise. There is also a whining noise when it's about to upshift and transmission tech told me it's normal.

Normal on the f150 side, that’s what happens when you go to electronic knob shifters

I don’t experience any delay or rough shifts, or the transmission wine.

I have never experienced shift lag (19 Expy platinum 4x4). Nothing when going from drive to reverse or back to drive. Very interesting. I do find my reaction times bad. After 10 months in my Expy, I am still reaching for a shift knob. Almost got backed into in a parking because I reached for a shifter and not the dial.

I do notice that shifts are firmer and faster in sport, softer and slower in eco.

My 2018 has the shift delay from when changing between P, R, and D. I've gotten used to waiting to step on the gas until I feel the gears engage. It takes longer than any car I've had in the past, but I remember reading that it was normal for the 10-speed.

On my 19 the delay is much less than one second. I actually noted to myself that I love how quickly it shifts between drive and reverse and vice-versa, but this may be because my other car is a Subaru legacy which takes forever, literally almost two seconds, to switch between drive and reverse.

Yes, it is abnormally long, and the 10 speed is "not brilliant." I plan on getting mine reflashed when I get to the dealer one of these days. In Eco-Mode it feels like it is trying to engine brake at 10-15 mph.

I am surprised it has not been adjusted via various tunes. It sucks when you want to hustle this rig around in tight.

It sucks. Yes, it sucks. It sucks.

I think this might be a 2018 thing then. I have a 2018 and shift into reverse there is a big delay before it engages. BlWay more than should be the case.

Own/drive several cars for work. I'd pay extra to dump the dial.

The delay 0f 2 +/- seconds is real even on my 2020, and deliberate from Ford corporate IMHO.

It is amazing what people will put up with for their brands and defend. Will report back after a reflash.

YMMV

I have a similar delay on P, D & R. Drives me nuts, especially when parking on a slight incline.

Maybe if we had a delay

Maybe if we had a delay we’d know what you’re talking about.

I'll be contacting corporate. The delay is ultimately unacceptable, especially since half of the threads claim to have no delay.

Problem is we don’t know if one guys 2-3 seconds is the same as another guys 2-3 seconds. I’m trying to think of a car that had instantaneous engagement. Maybe my old TA with 4l60 or one of the 727 mopars I had felt like it popped in right away. Most anything is going to need a split second or full second to get fluid started.

Does it start after a certain number of miles? I have 2500 so far and I’ve never thought it took longer than it should and I’m pretty sure nobody else on earth has as many quick back and forths as I do to get in or out of my garage.
