I have a 2023 Limited Max Stealth that we bought a couple of months ago after trading in my 18 Limited Max with almost 140k miles on it.

I’ll randomly hear it make two chimes in quick succession but there are no visual alerts that I’ve seen and it only ever does it once. I have tried to recreate it with no luck and I couldn’t find anything in the manual.

It’s not a lot to go on, I know, but any insight is appreciated!

Does it sound like a door chime or like the nav is telling you there is traffic on your route?

More information would be helpful regarding the chimes.

When the engine is running? When the engine is off? When the vehicle is being driven? When engine is off and the driver exits the vehicle? When the engine is running and a passenger exits the vehicle. When the engine is running and the driver exits the vehicle? When the engine is running and the transmission is shifted into gear? Has the vehicle been scanned for any stored trouble codes?

I don’t use the car’s built in nav so I’m not sure. I only use CarPlay. And my doors don’t have a chime that I’ve ever heard. It’s a very “courteous” sounding chime. Not “angry” like when the pre-collision sounds or anything.

It’s when the car is on. I feel like it’s mostly when I’m stopped but the car is in drive so I didn’t know if it was a driver alert sound but it doesn’t give a message in the cluster like when using LKA.

I believe this is the Nav chime letting you know there's traffic ahead. Despite you not using in car Nav, the car "learns" routes you frequent and time of day. I finally figured this out in my Mach-E and have had it happen in the Expedition as well.

Even if you're not using the nav, sometimes (but not always) it picks up that you're on a common route, and will give you traffic notices when you're coming up on traffic.

I haven't looked into a way to turn it off, but I suspect there has to be?

I agree that this is probably it. When I drive to work it will tell me the timing of the delay because of traffic even if I am not using the nav. Haven't looked to see if it can be turned off either. But directions/traffic info using the nav with the sound off will notify of changes with two chimes.

I am so glad to see this chain started! Those two dings have been driving me nuts and I just hadn't gotten around to posting. It will surprise me if it's actually the navigation, but I will play with it some more and see if I can make the connection. Thanks all who contributed here.

Next time you hear it click the Nav tab as soon as you do. You'll see a box with a predicted time delay and section of upcoming road highlighted yellow or red.

Happened in my MachE frequently. Turned out to be multiple notifications from the in-car nav. Turned them (almost) all off and didn’t happen for months, then suddenly happened once. Apparently a rail crossing alert from the nav which i turned off. Now hasn’t happened in at least a year.

2022 expy max platinum. same chime. only happens once when I first start engine or start moving.... not annoying but wonder what it is. My guess is it is telling me about carplay syncing. Like you there is no visual que.

Same thing with me. Chimes one time (every time) when I first start the engine and then never again. Just started recently with mine.

Thank you for the thread. I got on here to get an answer as well. I keep getting the 2 tone noise on my 2023 Ford Expedition. Thanks again.

It has to be the nav, I’ve had the same thing and happened to look one day at the built in nav to notice a trends button where it’s trying to predict my destination. I’m going to try to play around but suspect you’re all correct that the myTrends is driving it since it seems to happen more on routes that I frequent.

I was just able to go through settings in the nav screen, first disabled all notifications but then under user data disable destination suggestions. That gave me a warning it would delete all data associated so I’m hoping that does the trick.

You're lucky. All of a sudden, my 2018 Expy started chiming all the time . After powering down, the chime would start before the driver's door was opened, after the door was opened, and after the door was closed (I am the sole driver) . It will continue to chime for at least 30 seconds before finally ceasing. It is so annoying. Then, one day out of the blue, it stopped doing this. I don't have any idea how this started in the first place and I haven't fiddled with any of the settings. So, I just think to myself, "it's a Ford". I then SMH and wait for the next unexplainable event.

I had a random chime occasionally while driving and couldn't figure out what it was. My wife ultimately pointed out that it happened every time we entered a school zone. The school zones are all over when I drive through them, so I never put the chime together with the school zone. But the truck doesn’t know what the school times are, so it chime in the school zone 24/7.

I have had my 2023 Expedition for 1 days and it randomly chimes, it's the same chime it makes when I get a text in my phone when using Android Auto...I was in a drive through and it did it twice. It's annoying because it cuts into the music I'm listening to. I tried to turn off all alerts in the nav but it still does it.

I have a 2022 Expedition and it has been to the shop multiple times for this reason. If you have them check your Ford Pass, more than likely it is throwing a code of some sort. Mine has thrown so many different codes and yet every time it is at the dealership, they can't "recreate the issue". I do not understand why it is important to recreate a dinging noise considering they have the codes listed but it has been 4 different times and never fixed. I have contacted Ford Customer Relationship department and they claim that unless the dealership can recreate the issue, then it can not undergo a warranty repair. I tried to get someone to "over ride" the requirement due to having the codes listed on my Ford Pass and they also refused. If yours is not throwing codes, I would be surprised and good luck getting them to fix it.
