That's funny. If that is truly the case, it's like saying - hey current owners, thanks for buying our product but we care far less about you right now, future buyers have priority... Love it. Not to mention that legally, in some cases that would literally lead to safety issues for current owners, that should be regulated by NHTSA...

unfortunately, money talks. Shutdown a production line can cost - $20-50k/minute. I had to wait for one month for a replacement torque convertor for my prior explorer under warranty this summer. Why I got another ford after this? I knew many other OEM’s with part shortages due to COVID.

Pissed owners is one thing - losing sales / market share / production line shutdowns is a different beast.

Touché, I believe Ford's number one financial concern right now is warranty repair liabilities. So I get that shutting down lines means a loss of future sales, but crappy assembly, and crappy part quality (hence the warranty liability) will cost just as much or more than lost sales. They are already laying folks off unfortunately, but a few major lawsuits due to vehicles that are possibly unsafe to drive because of part delays will add up to. I get it, they have insurance policies for that, but what a mess... I still don't have a sprayer assembly for the front camera housing, going on a month now.

Just updated to the newest cyanlab Sync release. Took about 20 mins or abit less. I didn't do the maps as I already have the F19 map version. Haven't played with it yet, but posted comments mention snappier car play execution and quicker map screens.

Part shortages are across all OEM’s right now - latest are semiconductors which are also halting lines.

I had to battle availability for a new torque converter for my 16 Explorer for over 1 month back last September, with the car undriveable at the dealer. All the dealer could do is apologize saying no parts available, and place me in different loaners to keep their miles down. Part shortages are not from ford, but from the suppliers. However, prioritization comes from contractual agreements between the OEM’s and the suppliers.

I understand your frustrations, but what you highlight as losses in the aftermarket are indirect losses, while immediately shutting the line down with the running costs of the plant are considered more direct costs, and are immediately tangible.

Will all the customers affected by aftermarket part shortages never buy ford’s again? Some will. I traded in the explorer 2 days after I got it back for the expy. Consider me stubborn, but I swore off GM products, and needed this size SUV.

Can you calculate all the customers upset and their actions to equal $20-50K USD each minute not having their missing part(s)? Probably not, and I’m sure the bean counters at the OEM’s also can’t.

You do 282 or 351? 351 has been reported on some forums to have issues. Some have reported good, but I would not jump to it yet. I installed it 2 weeks ago on my Explorer, so far so good...but we will see.

I had 282. Just put in 351. I don't have any time in the truck since installing it this morning. It installed easily and in a decently short time. I'll check it out this afternoon!

Was just about to do 351 as most of the reviews on the cyanlabs forum show positive to no changes. Literally just wrote the USB.

I most agree with you, but all of it is tangible. If you look at investor ratings and stock outlooks, the warranty liability right now has a very "tangible" effect on Ford, its ability to invest and borrow money, and it's overall value from a shareholders perspective. 2+ years (predating the lack of parts) of declining reliability, massive recalls, and massive warranty liability has caused similar companies to declare bankruptcy to reduce losses. All of these things impact the bottom line, the bigger issue is that some things are within their control, and some aren't. Part shortages kind of aren't (one would say just in time is to blame for not having more than a couple weeks of supply), but build and part quality are more in control.

I have not seen any negatives on my install in my Explorer, but I haven't put it on the Expy yet. Some of the Forums I use a few have complained about some bad behavior. These are the same forums that predated CyanLabs. So I trust their judgement. Waiting to see.

I upgraded to Sync 3.4.20351 this afternoon, so far no issues. Took 15 mins (no maps needed | already have M19) Switching apps/menu pages is noticeably quicker. I did do 2 hard reboots (power + >>) out of good habit. Will report if negatives show up.

Same here, I will say it seems like the updates are completing faster and faster these days. So far no issues.

Love the feedback in this thread. We test it and see how it does. So far, most of the complaints I have seen are on early Sync 3 APIM’s in Focus ST’s.

Just to be clear... I don't have to select nav (even tho I have it, assuming its up to date) each time I do an update, and can just update the Sync version? That would definitely be quicker.

You can just update the sync version.

So far pretty good, except that the blank screen issue while connected to a Pixel3 via AAuto seems be back. Meaning when staring the vehicle with a phone attached may cause a blank screen in the head unit. Audio still plays fine, but if you unplug the phone via USB and plug it back in, it corrects itself immediately. I encountered this issue probably 3 or 4 versions ago but it seems to be back in 351.

Yup, I was nervous [emoji51] but downloaded the new installer and went ahead and updated today. Upgraded without a hitch and looks great.

Was super easy, even for someone like me who has no idea about this stuff lol

I’ll be making a donation to Cyan Labs later today.

Tried an update to 20351 w/ v19 maps this past weekend and it failed. Said something about USB error using both ports. System just said updating and never went any further. Thankfully it didn't brick when I restarted. Going to try full format on the thumbdrive and attempt again next weekend. It's the same thumbdrive I've used in the past, and I didn't have any issue with the update when I did my other Ford vehicle and the prior Sync3 version.
