I did mine without the reformat step. I went straight into it and had no issues. Been about a week or so now.
Lou, What version were you at before going to 3.4?

I cannot remember the build number, but I am pretty sure that I was at the latest one of v3.0. owner.ford.com did not show any SYNC updates for my vehicle.
Interesting! So you just did the 19101 and the 19274, no format tool?

I've yet to run 19274, im actually still on 19200Of the early versions yes.
19274 is more stable. No pauses, no random reboots, 19274 is just more stable. It is obvious when you run it.
Also, apparently there is a way to still use the reformat tool, if you install 19101 over top of 19274. So going all the way, does not completely prevent you from going back to 3.0, just makes it more of a pain.

What are the benefits of upgrading the APIM firmware vs leaving as is?
I read in this thread folks are using the 3 USBs method, but when I go to cyanlabs site, they only reference the need for 2 USBs. I am not tech savvy, so just wanted to check in with you guys. Appreciate the help.
CyanLabs says 2, because after using the second one, you can wipe it and copy the 19274 files to it, and do that update. If you want to do it all at once, use 3.

Thank you Loki. My bad for not reading all the way through the write-up.
Come on man, take the plunge!
Pretty sure I never ran 19200 on mine. I did 19101, then 19274.

I noticed on the cyanlab site, that some folks wanted to go back to 19101 from 19274. Why might one want to do that? btw - I have a 2018 expy with Nav.
Has anyone looked at adding in some the "extras" off the Russian site? Probably not a good idea...lol
