This is an update of my post below called '03 EB problems - long
Back on Oct 3rd, I had picked up my vehicle, and was waiting on a replacement wheel they had ordered. The shimmy was not fixed by replacing 3 tires, and the rattle in the headliner wasn't fixed.
2 days ago, dropped my '03 back to Apple Valley Ford. They replaced the wheel, problem not solved. They replaced the entire rack and pinion yesterday. The shop manager and I took it for a 20 minute drive on the freeway. I didn't notice any shimmy. I get the feeling that they've really, really decided that Continentals are the problem, and that they've fought with Ford over this issue, and Ford won't budge. Ford won't let them put any other tire on this vehicle. I really wish I could've gotten Michelins.
The rattle in the headliner was fixed. There was a loose part that had come free.
They removed the ink from the leather seats, they washed it, and put more gas back in. Altogether, almost 200 miles on the odometer to get it fixed.
I've put about 30 miles on it. Seems good to me.
Warning: Offtopic content to follow.
Incidentally, they gave me a Chevy Trailblazer for 2 days (Enterprise rental car). I was thoroughly unimpressed. Not comfortable, very plain, and well, it's just a mushy truck.
Bucket seats didn't feel like buckets... they felt like bench seats. I could've done better with some 2x4's and a couple of pillows. It had power, if you put it all the way to the floor and held it there. Road/wind noise was bad. It was loud. Like driving a little car.
The suspension was ... mushy. Braking, accelerating, turning, the thing just leaned all over the place. It drove like a boat. I remember driving my father's 1972 Ford LTD. It was just like that.
I still remember driving an Explorer. If the Trailblazer is the competition, it isn't much of a contest. If you look at a Trailblazer, it looks like it should be ... sporty. Instead, it's mushy.
