Vacation - Battery disconnect ?

Since I disconnected the battery (at least twice in the past few days) along with the dead battery (several times) ... and I'm scheduled for a NYS inspection in the morning --- I had to execute a drive cycle to make the computers ready for the Emissions Test. The internet has all kinds of convoluted procedures, but I read a simple one right in the Owners Manual. Drove around yesterday & today and got it done, confirmed at Advance Auto. I think it takes more than 1 (maybe 3) drive around to fully heated up then full cool down cycles but not exactly sure. Highway speed & stop n go around town.
The guy at Advance Auto went through quite a few menu's checking alllll over the vehicle with his Scan Tool. Took a couple few minutes. My cheapo $20 bluetooth dongle couldnt do all that! Guy that put in the battery and the OBD2 guy both did an excellent job (Penfield). With all the trashing of auto service guys I hear, these guys did an great job and I appreciate it. God Bless America!

I’ll be stopping by the dealer soon to grab a new battery. This morning it was and still is 0 Fahrenheit. Truck struggled to turn over and start this morning after just being driven last night.
YES … same thing on my 2014EL. 1 degree F here. Noticed it seemed to be a weak start, so I turned it off and measured voltage. 11.82V This seems like a repeat of what I just went through on my 2003XLT and replaced that battery. Both batteries about 5 years old. I'm not going to try to eek a few more days out of this battery … time to replace!
Cold tests your vehicle the same way heavy winds test your sailboat.
You find out where the weak rigging is in the heavy winds!
update: best battery they had was $139 plus $28.50 to install. Was surprised by the install charge but at least it went well. Batteries are trickier to install than they used to be (heard).
I told them I wanted the biggest and baddest,
which they said was the 850CCA BXT-65-850

Stopped just now, got the cargo in back. Mine was $109 plus $15 core charge after discount.

If you think that's big, ever see a Mercedes grp 49? Or a large truck battery? Makes our group 65 look tiny.

It was there for the 5 minute ride yep. Not too worried about the interior on my old 07’. Cranked over nice and strong this morning.

To make mine fit yesterday I had to ditch that factory insulation thought I’d add. Didn’t want to participate and was starting to deteriorate anyway.

Has been cranking over better every morning and have taken some long drives which likely have synced the new battery in good. One of the mornings it was zero degrees out even the brand new battery cranked over slower than usual. Battery was made in December according to the sticker....
Still a lot better than the old one which barely cranked over at all at zero and below.

Easy fix, there was a phone charger with an indicator light plugged in one of the 12V outlets.

Followup. I put the new battery in the 2003 on January 6 and new battery in 2014 on January 21. On Monday February 4 I decided to do a sanity check. I failed.
The 2014 was 12.6V resting , dropped to 10.7V starting , and 14.3V running.
The 2003 was 12.3V resting , dropped to 9.9V starting , and 14.5V running.
2003 battery was seemingly weaker/less charged so I put it on 6AMP charger and it was pulling 5A and saying 25% charged so I let that run for 6 hours until it dropped into good.
After driving it around all this week, it is holding up to more like the 2014 battery. Just for grins I put the charger back on it and it dropped to 100% charged & 2AMPS in 15 minutes.
Conclusion. I dunno. My guess is the 2003 battery (from AdvanceAuto) didn't come fully charged and never charged up fully with whatever driving I was doing. Maybe its a good idea to charge up a new battery when you buy one?
To be thorough, I just put the charger on the 2014. It dropped to 75% charged & 3AMPS in 10 minutes (which I think is ok?). I'll give it an hour or two to go to good. Can't hurt
Will do another sanity check in a few weeks.

Definition of insanity, doing the same thing, but expecting a different result! Back in my days at the motorcycle shop, we used to fill dry batteries with electrolyte, then put on our multi battery charger. It was 1 1/2 amps if memory serves me. We'd tell customer that was buying battery to return about 3-4 hours later. The battery voltage was good enough without charging, but it's what we did. All motorcycle shops pretty much adhere to this practice. I don't know if the slow charging stimulates the acid or something, and have never heard of any shop, or parts store recommending this procedure for automotive batteries. Can't see how it would hurt a new battery as long as you don't overcharge it. A 6 amp or smaller charger to get it above it's 12.6 resting voltage, say 13.0, should probably git er done!
