I had a suspicion that water was dripping onto my engine cover since there’s dirt on top of the cover from what seems like water dripping onto it and then drying (I noticed this right after buying it new, and I only have about 600 miles now). I popped the hood today after we got a wet snow to see where water might be coming in. I was surprised to see a good amount of water dripping into the engine bay on the driver side where the firewall and fender meet. It was coming in pretty good and dripping onto the felt and around some of the electrical connectors. There was also some on the passenger side in the same area.

Also, in the middle of the cowl there’s a sizable gap in the weatherstripping that’s supposed to seal the rear of the hood. See pics below. As I watched I could see water starting to come in from the middle section and then drip down the plastic above the engine an onto the cover.

Is this normal? I’d think more engineering would’ve gone into sealing the engine bay from water dripping into it.

It's pouring, I'd have to say definitely not condensation. That seems like an awful lot of water. I'm wondering if someone forgot to place some weather striping someplace. Any chance you can go to a dealership and compare side by side. Actually, the more I look at it, it looks like the water could be coming from that gap in the seal, and leaching to the sides. Also, was there a lot of standing water on the hood when you opened it, that could also be pouring down the sides as soon as you open it making it look worse. But I definitely see the water near the gap.

The hood was mostly dry before I opened it. As soon as I opened it I noticed the water already pouring in on the sides, the worst on the driver side, and it didn’t appear that water had been coming in from the gap and leaching to the sides. I’m curious if everyone has the gap in the center of the seal?

I like your idea of comparing to another vehicle at the dealership. But if anyone has a pic or two of your engine bay I’d appreciate it!
