Need Help...

My wife just tried to go get an oil change on the Expy, and was denied because they said there was water in the oil. The place said that we would need to get an oil flush.

Okay, with that said... I have a few concerns. One big one is, how the heck did we get water in the oil? Is there a sure reason (bad head gasket or something)? If they said that we need an oil flush, how would this fix the problem... Sounds like a scam to me...

Anyone have any feed back, or possible someone that has actually had water in the oil, and a permanent fix. I wouldn't think this is normal.

Thanks.

have you personally checked the condition of the oil? usually water in the oil makes it white milish looking.... on older trucks that I have offroaded hard I have gotten water in the oil and simply did a oil change in my driveway and replaced the oil... never heard of an oil flush but then again typically do my oil changes myself

Where were you getting the oil changed at. I haven't heard of an oil flush but there is a tranny flush. Could be a scam to get you to spend more money. A bad head gasket could cause it but I would be careful.

but bad head gasket can also cause the exhaust to smell sweet, since its burning coolant... my .02 would be a scam... kinda like headlight fluid or muffler bearings...

If it is the Head like WALNUTS said it will smell sweet, it will smell like maple syrup, I have had my share of blown head gaskets over the years.

i would take it to another place, scam!!!

Sounds like a scam. I have never heard of an oil flush other than just changing the oil. Water (moisture) in the oil can be normal if the vehicle is driven on short trips frequently as it will not burn off. If you have a lot of water in it, sounds like a head gasket. If you have a whitish muck on the bottom of the oil cap, but the oil doesn't look like a milkshake, it's just that the moisture hasn't burned off due to short trips. If the oil looks like a milkshake, you need to look at the head gaskets.

Thanks for all the info guys, My wife took the truck to walmart to do some shopping and decided it was a good idea to let them do an oil change on the truck while she was shopping.

There is a white film on the oil. I don't smell any sweet smell, and figured that it was a scam seeing like said above, I have heard of coolant flushes, and whatnot but never an oil flush.

I'll change the oil myself, and go from there. The truck gets a wide variety of miles driven. So I'm still not sure how I could get water in there. I went "Off Road" once, to get our xmas tree, and it was more like going through mud puddles to get our tree rather then off roading.

Pull the dipstick and see what color the oil is on that. That will determine the issue prior to an oil change.

Well I definitely can't pull anything bigger/heavier!!! Off the hitch without a WDH I am at 6000+ lbs. In that pic I was also at 850 lbs. tongue weight!!! I am now right about 600 lbs after I moved the trailer axles forward 9 inches.

I see it as a good thing that the boat makes the Expy look small! lol. I get comments all the time at the launch ramp that it must be a bear to trailer it and put it in the water.
