Hi all, I have been searching all over the net and cant seem to find any help, my 2008 Expedition limited is doing something weird with the driver door lock.... If the doors are locked and I pull the handle from the inside, the door opens but the door remains locked, so if I get out and shut the door I'm locked out... This only happens when the truck is running however because if I shut the truck off it electronically unlocks all the doors, all of the electronic lock functionality works like normal. If I test the passenger side it feels like there is some kind of manual mechanism that pushes the door lock to the unlocked position... Has anybody experienced this before? I am going to pop the door panel off this weekend but want to kinda have a idea what could be wrong so if I need a certain part I can get it before I proceed with the panel removal... Thank you all in advance!

Does seem weird, but also makes sense.

The door lock mechanism is simple in design but hard to explain. I believe you will likely need to remove the entire window regulator to gain full access. The Expeditions door inside guts are very similar to an 04+ F150. Below I'll post links below to two videos, one for 07+ Expedition window regulator removal and the other to 04+ F150 lock assembly removal.

Your interior door handle is a lever connected to a simple cable that pulls a butterfly mechanism that (should) not only release the door latch, but that butterfly mechanism will also push the door lock rod up, over-riding whatever setting the power lock actuator had put the locking mechanism in. So I have to assume, when you pull the interior door handle, your little lock knob on the door panel stays in the down position, but when you use the power lock switch, it does go up, correct? If this is the case, you'll need to pull it all out and see if something is obviously out of alignment, bent, or broken.

It sounds like the electrical lock actuator is working, sounds as if interior and exterior cables, connecting handles to the mechanism, are also working. So that basically leaves the latch/lock assembly. Double check and confirm with your dealer, but I believe I understand the original part number 9L1Z-78219A65-B has been updated (not sure why) with part number BL1Z-78219A65-A. You should be looking at $120 or so and its 100% a DIY job.

Thank you so much for the info the videos where very helpful.. I will take it apart and see what happens.. We just bought the car and loving it so far, just gotta fix this door, and from looking at this forum the rear ac actuator, which seems relatively simple from what I have read... This forum is awesome! Thanks again!
