I was wondering what these lights on the 2003 expedition are called? They are not working and I'd like to diagnose the problem.

Thank you for the welcome. It's my first vehicle so excuse some of my questions.

Don't worry about it! And I had similar questions when I first bought my Expy but I'm sure you know your way around the truck like bread and butter in no time at all... Any modification plans for it?

It was previously my father's truck so ive been around it most of my life. So far I had to fix the tailgate panel which got cracked when removed to fix the rear wiper, install new gas pistons on the tailgate glass, and reinstall the front license plate bracket. The only mods so far are mud guards and window trim and bug guard. I'm going to take all of the cladding and the bumpers off to spray with duplicolor. I am also eventually going to fix the ac door issue. I may install a lift kit if time and money allows.

Could probably be 100 different reasons and since they are BOTH not working it makes me think that it isn't just burnt out bulbs so it could possibly be the fuse or wiring or honestly a number of things but if I were to start somewhere is maybe change the bulbs and check the power going to the lights with a tester which both of those things are easy enough I believe

Top of my head I have no idea but you could maybe find a diagram online or on the forum somewhere

Do you have an owner's manual? It lists all the fuse locations in there.

If you don't, there is a place where you can view them online.

I'd check the bulbs. Should be a 1/4 turn (counter clockwise) to release it from the housing (on the backside). You should be able to see if the filament is broken.

Just to make sure, you are trying to turn them on by pushing in/pulling out the headlight switch knob. Right?

Second on that... Another different thing about Fords that I didn't figure out until owning the truck for about a week lol you pull the headlight knob towards you to engage the Fogs

If your parking lights work then fuse #6 is good (power to the headlight switch circuit...). Next on the list is fuse #17 specific for the fog-lights. You don't need to turn the key ON, just turn the headlight switch to the first position (parking lights ON) and pull the headlight switch knob out a click. Do you have a digital multimeter ? 'Cause if they still don't work you're gonna have to check for voltage at the foglight plugs under the front bumper. If the foglights are old and cloudy looking you can buy replacement assemblies on Ebay for about $30 each.

I'll try this out tomorrow. I do have a multimeter. If I'm testing them they should be receiving 12 volts?

Make sure the switch is pulled out. I know it sounds simple but sometimes we over look them. And check your bulbs. I would start there.

I'm going to double check that switch when I get home from school. I have bigger issues to deal with. I'm now dealing with a misfire. It's most likely a coil as four others have been changed. It's throwing a code but I don't have a diagnostic reader. Next thing on my list of stuff to get.
