I have heard that there is an upgraded cam phaser that you should get vs what ford is calling for on the Tsbs. Can anyone advise?
I have a 2019 Exp 4x4 xlt with 48K miles and it needs the cam phasers. After reading all the posts and the looking online i am hoping ford has made some progress in fixing this issue.

Dealer is warranting it under TSB 23-2143(5/04/2023) which is calling for the following:
HL3Z-6256-CD and HL3Z-6C525-CD. I think these are the old ones.

I heard that these were the lastest so called upgraded phasers:
Intake Phaser- ML3Z-6256-A Exhaust Phaser- ML3Z-6C525-A

In the 21N03 Supplement #4 (3/25/2022) it states:

*Note: If part ML3Z-6256-A is not available, part HL3Z-6256-CD is an alternate option.

Interesting that other previous TSB mention only the HL3Z-6256-CD and HL3Z-6C525-CD
TSB-22-2200
TSB-21-2119
TSB-20-2315
TSB-20-2191
TSB-20-2166

Thanks ahead of time.

I'm having the same issues expedition 2018 64k miles, so right after power train warranty. I did a quick search for the new 'M' part numbers and one site https://www.fordoempartsdirect.com/oem-parts/ford-engine-timing-camshaft-sprocket-ml3z6256a says it does not fit my vehicle. My expedition has had the phasers replaced at 29k miles and later at 32k miles and then the reprogramming was done and a new knocking noise occurred as well. In the shop at the moment waiting for ford warranty service to try to cover some or all repairs but very frustrated with the whole situation. Given its ford's bad design issue that keeps occurring.. dealer charging about 2100 for repair and somehow ford only wanted to pay 40% of it :(. opened a case again and waiting....

I’m sure you figured this out by now but if not, the ML3Z are the ones you want.

Don’t rely on the TSB. ML3Z is the updated version. Check out this Yourube video. I just installed these updated ones on my 2018 Expedition. Phasers look completely different than the old style. Many ford parts websites still will show these aren’t compatible but they are. If your box says HL3Z then your getting the older parts. Some parts places still have the old style in stock and are trying to sell them. I believe the old style from 17-20 went through 3 variations, with the 3rd being a completely different looking phaser. Many people who got their phasers replaced got the “updated” ones that were still a faulty design.
