Now that the weather is cold, my windows dont go up very well, if at all, without major assistance.

They werent speed demons in the summer either.

Whats the usual suspect here? Bad motor? Bad regualtor? both?

Yea mine are also painfully slow going up. My first gen expedition was super fast. Don't know what happened...

Same here. And ditto with 1rst gen. Don't mean to hijack thread, but compared to my 1rst year, 1rst gen, there are lots of nagging little problems with my '05. The engineering they put into the 3V 2nd is impressive, but it seems that shortcuts were taken compared to when they first came out to impress. Like maybe cheap window motors, a rear wiper drive that seizes and no flip down panels to fill the large gaps when middle seats are folded down. Things I took for granted with my '97.

This thread seems to have died. Maybe cause I hijacked it :)
Could there be stronger window motors to upgrade with?
I'm gonna pull the door panels anyway. This thing freezes up in our single digit
temperatures and I have to hit the door lock buttons up and down 10-15 times
just to get the doors to stay latched closed properly. Again, something I never had to worry about with the 97 Expy. After thoroughly lubing the window regulators and lock/latch mechanisms, there will be little left to do but to try to upgrade window motors if that's even an option.

I agree. They definitely didn't put as much effort into the newer versions.

Dirt and grime accumulates in the run channels. Plus the rubber in the run channel actually starts to sort of exude its resin and gums up the works as well.

Spray some silicone spray, Armorall or Tire Wet dressing down the run channels and then roll the windows up and down a few times. If this doesnt fix the problem pull the trim panel and remove the run channels then clean them and reinstall and lubricate with silicone spray.

Any actual Ford service manual that you would find in the Library at your local Ford dealer if you worked there says to lubricate the run channels as part of one of the full services.

Never thought of tire dressing as lubricant. That actually makes a lot of sense. I dont like it on tires, but I bet it works well in window runs.

I lubed the ever loving crap out of my driver side window circuit (track, rails motor). It helped a lot! the motor has plenty of torque on its own, BIG glass with a lot of weight and lots of places for lube to go.
