I am just checking to see if anyone knows before I pull the headliner to install the 15" monitor. I need to find a good cross brace in the ceiling (The monitor is 12.8 lbs!), the mounting instructions say to glue a flat board to the flat ceiling with silicon if no cross brace is found, but I don't know with 12.8 lbs. I am hoping one will be right behind the (Non-sunroof) ceiling console or at least near that area. I already have to deal with the ceiling AC vent ducting. Not sure how I will do that. I may just cut into the ducts when the headliner is out. The monitor will be in the airflow of the AC and it can help keep the unit cool. The monitor will be flush mounted with the ceiling if I go that route and I could cover it with headliner to hide it compleatly. I was also considering using threaded dowels to suspend the unit just outside the ducting and basicly just make it look like it is flat-mounted to the ceiling. I have not pulled the headliner yet (Too cold). I am sure I can figgure things out while it is down, just doing some desk modding right now while I am at work. Back to the question. Where are the cross braces in the celing of the 2nd gen expedition?

I did this about 7-8 years ago on my 2003, I think the cross brace is 8-10" from the overhead console without a sunroof. If you center between the left and right air conditioning duct and 5-6" before the ceiling light above the middle seating you should be safe and the monitor will cover the hole so start out with a small hole and work from there, I think there was 2 braces, a front and a back one because I anchor it in two position. Take the long overhead console down and you will get a better picture, then feed the wiring harness through the headliner to the right and toward the front windshield and run it down the passenger side. In order to drill in the cross brace you will need a long bit so the drill won't mess up the headliner, but the headliner don't have to be removed.
