Which Engine Would You Choose?

The Expedition 6sp, 6R80 transmission is a BMW/ZF design, built under license by Ford. It has a adaptive learning module. It learns driving habits and shifts accordingly. The problem is, most people don't horse there vehicles, on a regular basis. That computer adjusts for a dull driving experience. Did you ever notice, how rental cars, have good acceleration? That is because they are constantly beat on. I have this frustrating transmission, in my 2011 Mustang GT. I wish there was a way to disable, this stupid feature and leave it in a performance mode, full time. I recently floored it around 20mph. The tires spun and it got a little sideways. It seemed to wake the car up, transmission wise. The shifting improved and now winds the gears out, slightly better. So if you have the 6R80, try opening it up, once in a while.

You think the 6R80 is bad wait till you drive the eight or ten speed... the most annoying vehicles you will EVER drive. It constantly changes gears and downshifts and any change in throttle position sends it hunting for gears. I'll say it does it subtlety but I notice and It makes me wanna pull my hair out.

Wow, I try to see things from others points of view and I guess I just never realized the things that bother some people........makes me kinda happy that I don't get that twisted over the little stuff. It's like wearing a winter coat on the first cool day....what does one do when it gets really cold?

I like the idea of having 10 gears and letting the computer figure out which gear works best for the condition. As long as when I need to go it can downshift and get me up to speed I'm good to go. Wait till those continuously variable speed transmissions become standard then you will never feel it shift. That is the one thing nice about the electric vehicles it feels linear. The harder you step on the pedal the faster you go. Kind of like the EcoBoost.

Sooo....You like your vehicle dictating, how it runs, even if it, reduces performance, when not wanted? I want mine to run at its best and have a option to, save fuel. Many autos have this switch. The German version of the 6R80, has this option. I guess Ford engineers, override the drivers/owners. They added a useless "hill assist". BY THE WAY...can you reduce your photos? Your post take the whole page. We all know what a Expedition looks like.

You read what I wrote and I stand by that.

I'm an almost 60 year old driver, not 25 any more, I don't go hot rodding around and I don't over-drive my abilities or the vehicles capabilities. The vehicle as manufactured meets my needs and my requirements. If I wanted a hot rod, I'd buy one or I'd have one built for me but that part of my life is way behind. I'm technology guy, I like new technology and I don't have a problem with it.

If you don't like the performance of the transmission and the German version has a switch, figure out how to connect the switch and then you can turn on and off as you desire. It would probably be a good mod that some guys on here would like to do.
