I bought this 2010 Eddie Bauer just for this awesome entertainment system. I was spoiled by the system in my 2007 Pacifica (CD/DVD/mp3/aux/BT plus changer, can separate to rear - no touchscreen though) and I knew my next vehicle had to have something just as good or better.
But I'm still getting used to it. So far I think "Sync" is pretty awesome. Automatically connecting to my phone about 4 times faster than the old car used to is nice, and being able to play media (music, podcasts, youtube) is a great addition. I haven't even started trying to use voice commands so there's plenty of automation to be done.
The 1CD deck is annoying since I mostly play CDs, but whatever, since it does play mp3 CDs. (too bad it doesn't do mp3 DVDs... and why the hell not, anyway?) I absolutely love the ability to rip a CD to the jukebox on-the-fly, while it plays. Not even my PC can do that!
OK, so my questions are about the "jukebox".
- I assume the car has a hard drive. What is the actual capacity of this drive?
- Is there any way to access this drive? I'd like to throw a bunch of music onto it but the only way I currently know how to do that is to put in CD after CD and rip them to the jukebox. Same for deleting. Eventually I'll want to change up the lineup of songs and manually deleting them on the touchscreen would take eons.
- What can I plug into the USB slot that will work? The manual assures me that sync can index "thousands of songs" - well, I have 49,000 and although I don't need to have them all in the car... I kinda want to! I have a small 500 GB USB external hard drive and plugged it in, but after scanning for a minute or two it tells me it's an "unsupported format". On the other hand, a 16 GB USB stick with about 100 songs on it promptly indexes and plays. With those two being my only devices available to test, I'm left wondering if this means that there is indeed a threshold that my big hard drive crosses where it overwhelms Sync and it gives up trying to index it all (meaning the manual talks big but can't back it up), or if it's the fact that it's a hard drive, or maybe a certain type of hard drive that doesn't play nice with Sync. What have people found to work with that USB slot? What's the largest device known to work?
