Generally I like this vehicle (2001) but at 60,000 miles:

-back of drivers seat sqeaks really badly
-engine leaks oil, three tries at dealer, still no fix
-heater fan quit, full of rust from some sort of leak in cowl
-heater speed control resistors quit
-speedometer quit, odometer and tach still work
-radio antenna spontaneously broke (had fun fixing that)
-drivers power window is intermittent
-dome light switch in rear of vehicle never worked
-EGR sensor caused CHECK ENGINE light to come on within one week of end of warranty. Fixed it myself and dealer eventually paid me back under Ford secret extended warranty

All in all, simply not good enough. My last Ford.

just wondering...did you get your power window fixed? Mine just crapped out, and i don't know where to start looking. all the other windows work just fine, only the drivers side doesn't work at all.

No sorry can't help you. It seems to have fixed itself.

It's probably the window regulator. It's a common problem with the Expy.

It sounds like a good extended warranty may be worth the $$ when the factory warranty expires.

do you happen to know how much that costs, or how to diagnos it? my extended warranty is up, so i'm gonna have to pay for it, no matter what it ends up being.

thanks-

It could be three things:

1. The regulator.
2. The motor.
3. The switch panel.

But, I have heard that it is the regulators that are going out.

A chilton manual would be helpful for this..

The way I would troubleshoot is to pull the door panel and remove the motor. Hit the window switch with the wires connected and see if the motor turns. If the motor turns, then the regulator is jammed or broke.

If the motor doesn't turn, check for power at motor when the switch is engaged. If there is power, then the motor is bad. If there is no power, then it is the switch panel or wiring problem.

I am not an expert, but I just went thru this in my old Maxima.
