Winter wheels and tires

What's everyone running or going to run for a winter tire set up? I have the 2025 Tremor edition with the Grabbers but I live in central Alberta and most of my driving is on the QE2 which can get very icy in the winter due to blowing snow and wind polishing the highway making studded tires almost a necessity. Going to be running some American Racing AR949 wheels and some studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3's. I've had very good experience with these tires in the past running them on my F350 diesel. They are expensive, but have saved my ass more than once when encountering multiple multi vehicle pile-ups on the highway.

Northern Illinois here. I considered buying another set of wheels/tires but decided it is probably unnecessary. So no dedicated winter tires/wheels for me.

I will run LT3 Hakkapellitta Non-studded on my OEM wheels. Hope to grab a set of Volk Racing TE37xt's for my summer set but having a hard time determining if 18x9.5 et20 will work with stock suspension. Pushing the tires out 2.4cm shouldn't impact the fit as long as I keep the tires at OEM (General Grabber) size.

iPike carbide studded on 18" black steel wheels for winter shoes. Not impressive looking but no mre waiting in line twice per year to swap.

Was thinking Hak LT3s, as I agree they seem to be the best, but it was a grand+ more and the 22" wheels available were "meh." Had I stumbled upon some King Ranch take-off wheels, maybe would have ponied-up. I have Haks on the F350 and they are effective and durable so far after one season.

I agree with not waiting in line twice a year for the tire swap. Also less chance to damage wheels. I used to run steel wheels but had issues with them rusting. I like running coated aluminum wheels because the snow and ice cleans off easily and they have held up well for me in the past. For a winter wheel I wasn't as concerned about looks but wanted something similar in design to stock and easy to clean, which meant no small holes or hard to clean crevices.

Under the conditions you described, yes studded tires would definitely be a true life-saver, and if I lived up there, I would not hesitate to use them.

Unfortunately, in many states down this way, studded tires are illegal, so it's a moot point for us "southerners", but I definitely like those rims, regardless of the rubber that sits on them

For our 2019, I bought a set of new 20” Navigator wheels off of eBay and mounted a set of Toyota Celcuis tires. Same set going on our 25’ for the winter.
