I work for Toyo Tires North America, located in White, GA. I'm looking at buying a set of 33x13.5 R17. It looks like I'll have plenty of clearance, but I want to make sure I can turn a 13in wide tire in the fenders. What's the biggest size tires you guys have on a factory spec'd XLT 4x4....2001 if that matters!

I have 285/60/18's on mine (you're a tire guy so I know you can do the conversion comparison) and I get slight rub on my 03 xlt when I have the wheel cranked all the way.

What is the width and offset of the wheels you will be using?

I have 285/75 16s (33x11.5) on the stock 16x7 wheels w/4.5" bs on a 2000 XLT 4x4 w/stock suspension. They don't rub anywhere ever. I'm pretty sure you can go up to 305/75 16 without any issues, too.

I think if you go taller than 33" or wider than 12.5" (on the stock wheels anyway) you are going to have to trim the edge of the airdam to clear the tires when they turn.

Also, if you are using the stock 17x7.5 wheels, I think a 13.5" wide tire is too wide for that rim. I think you are supposed to keep the difference between tire width and wheel width within 4" at most, as a general rule of thumb. You would be better off with a 12.5 or 11.5 wide tire.

If you are going to use 17x9 or wider, it's all most guaranteed you are going to have to trim the lower part of the front bumper.

Hope this helps some.

Yes, exactly.

I just replaced the old tires (255/70s or 30"x10") with the new tires (285/75 or 33"x11.5"). I used the stock 16"x7" wheels, which has 4.5" of backspacing. There were no other modifications made.

BS = Backspacing. My apologies for assuming people would understand that.

I'm actually surprised a 285 tire will fit on a 7" wide rim. I thought my 8" wide rim was barely wide enough for 285's...maybe I'll go up to 295 next time.

Well, the more sidewall the tire has, the easier it is to fit it to the wheel.

Thank you very much for the info...so I am now under the impression that if I upgrade from my 255's to 285's, and add some 2" rear coil spacers...give my front a twist... I can add somewhere around 3.5" or so to my ride height? is this correct?
