Hey guys,

I was wondering how difficult it would be to stick a subwoofer in my xlt (2003). I know that the Eddie Bauers come with a sub, so would I be able to use the Eddie Bauer mounting points for it? Is it already wired or anything? I also dont know what would have to be done with the head unit- would I need to put in an Eddie Bauer one?

I want to upgrade my sound system a tad with as little cost and little risk as possible, since this will be one of my first projects and I dont trust myself too much yet.

Thanks so much for your help.

It's not prewired on the XLT, you have to make your harness and it consists of 5 wires about 14 feet long. I know I done it. I checked with the ford dealership and was told this harness was not available.

Will the harness work with the existing head unit?

Yes, if your radio support it with a plug on the back, its a small 16 pin plug on the left side of the radio when you are looking at it from the back. the far left. This from the back of the newer model navigation radio but the radio with the 6 disk changer built-in should have it on the back, at least mine's did. I hope this clarify everything. By the way my subwoofer bolted right in the frame with no drilling and works perfectly. I' m still looking for a grill cover.

I made my own, the subwoofer I got from a savage yard with the plug with 6 inches of wire still attach so like I stated earlier I added 14 foot of wire to each wire coming off the plug and label each with color and pin number on both ends of the wire so I wouldn't get confused with which wire go where on the radio plug. I shrinkwrap each splice and then I took a roll of electrical tape and started at end spiraling it to the other end. I took my time by anchoring the wire between two stationary object to kept it tight so everything would stay equal and even, when I finished I don't believe Ford could have done a better job. I plug it in and the satisfaction of it working, it made me feel good.

If you take your hand and pry up the door sills there is a channel below the door sills to run your cable along with the other cables or harnesses and everything is completely hidden.
