And how important they are... It's the shinny spot right next to the exhaust stud closest to the fire wall on the passenger side. The stud has Broke off and there's a spot like that oneither side of it were something is missing , it's just a big threaded hole there is some more but they're not missing . Im Thinkin the exhaust leak had something to do with them coming out? What are they and should I be worried & fix asap?

If I am looking at this correctly it is where my exhaust heat shield is mounted to.

That's the access to change your muffler bearings... :joke:

From the pic, it kind of looks like a casting plug.

If it's just a casting plug no need to worry it's just a dimple left from the manufacturing process.

On my 2000 expedition the passenger side tapped hole pictured is unused.

These heads have many applications other than the expedition, I would assume its just a potential accessory or bracket mounting point and would not be overly concerned. These heads also may be used on either bank assuming the cams have yet to be installed and on the drivers side it is one of two holes used to hold the power-steering reservoir.

The exhaust manifold stud is obviously broken which will cause exhaust leak but it looks to me like the other hole is just empty.

It's not just you. I see it to. But then again, we both have dirty minds.
