i would go around to different shops and get quotes. but you should at least have an idea of what you want. what type of head unit you(touch screen, nav, bluetooth, etc) do you want to change out your door speakers. Do you want 1 or multiple subs. Size of subs 10",12",15",18". Do you want to be able to go deaf or just feel the bass a little bit when you want to. Just ask questions on here and at the shops. There is plenty of help to be had.

Sony CDX-GT660UP stereo
4 80W Kenwood KFC-C6894PS 6x8's (to replace front and rear factory speakers)
Alpine MRP-M500 amp (500W rms x 1/300W rms x 1)
Kicker TS10L3 10in subwoofer (800W max/400W rms)

Thanks for any and all opinions

Like I said this is my first non-factory stereo system, I'm very much a rookie. The tech showed me bout 4 different units in my price range and what had the options I liked and I picked that one. Do you think it will look weird?

I personally like the look of the bigger radio plus mine is a dvd player and I don't like the motorized screen version. With most install kits for the single din models you get an extra cubby hole above or below the radio that fakes up the extra space.

that seems like a good starter system. Should be enough to hear the subs and feel it a little bit. And it shouldn't take up to much space. Did you go around and get different quotes? You might also think about finding them online. might be able to save a little bit of money and get a head start on your next mod.

By my calculation from the stuff you have listed I'm coming up with around a $500 total and that's with a box so the only thing you're missing is a wire kit. For an amp that small you'll only need an 8ga. kit and some rca's, about $75 for both.

To me, and this is just my opinion and 20 other people might say different, but to me anything Sony car audio is junk. I worked at Circuit City for 2.5 years & Best Buy for 2 years and they were definitely in the lower end of what we carried at both places. I know it sounds odd being that alot of their other products are higher end but it is what I've found to be true.

I'm partial to and have always had good luck with Alpine stuff, I know alot of people here are fans of Pioneer which is another really good brand. I would personally re-think the Sony HU for something a little higher end. If you have a $1000 budget it looks like you should have a little cash to play with so it's something to think about but it does look like you have a pretty good starter system. Hope any of this helps and good luck.

Sony isn't junk...just not what they used to be...I think their focus went away from car audio but still is offering something for budget ballers...again...great for starting out...and he's not trying to compete or show off so he's good...I'm still not where I want to be but what u can do is get an EQ to fill the space and tune the system more...or just use the install that will make it a convenient pocket to put paper...lighter...cash...wallet....you'll never find one brand that's above the rest...just depends on what u want your setup to sound like...I personally want to ability to rattle cars next to me...but don't ride that loud all the time...I started with 2 12" volfenhags...and ppl thought I had 2 top brand 15"s...I really want to get sponsored by an unknown company that puts out great product that will be the next kicker...orion...sundown in the industry...I currently have pioneer avic-d3 hu...massive audio 6.5's with massive audio 100x4 rms amp...power acoustik 3600d amp...treo 18" 1800 rms sub...everything to me is still a starter kit

Set up sounds great makes my hair move lol. Very happy. Thanks for all the replies. Should I hold on to my factory speakers and 6disc changer or try and sell the stuff?

I'd hold onto them just in case, I tossed out my factory deck to my crown vic, for what reason I still don't know, then when I sold it I had to leave my Alpine in the car cuz I felt like a d!ck selling it without a radio.

Did you smell anything? Sub could be blown. Also check your ground. Are there any lights on the amp to indicate that it's on, if so is it on?

Normal blue light is on the amp. No smell to alarm me just kinda that new smell. Just irritating. Just made one noise and stopped workin. Amp was slightly warm not hot. Glad its all under warranty.

Hmmmm could be bad ground, one of the wires to the sub inside box could've came off or it might just be a bum sub, it happens.

There is a vibration coming from the front of the sub and it goes along with the bass of the song but I can only hear it if I put my ear close to the sub.
