Is my dd and I tow a 17 ft travel trailer once every couple of months
Budget: 8000.00

Basic info listed above. On my last trip I used 2 qts of oil while towing my trailer 1 1/2 hours away, one way. It has a lot of miles on her, and I know the rings are probably about due for a change. No sense in doing just the rings, I should do it all while its opened up. Now I won't be doing anything till at the very earliest march, I know she will hold out to then. I also plan to do the same thing with the trans, either rebuild that or new one there as well stand by for that thread. I should mention also that either way I go it will be done by someone who knows what they are doing, not me! My budget is 8000k for both engine and trans, I want the cheapest I can get but won't sacrifice quality for price.

My questions.

1. Should I just replace the engine with a new one?
2. Rebuild the current one?
3. Will a new or rebuilt engine raise the value? ( I went to kbb and it said it would be 2k difference from 165000 to 5000 miles) just didn't know if this is how others thought as well.

A few questions so we may better answer..

Do you have someone in mind that is doing the work for you or is finding a shop that will perform all the work part of the budget??

How much downtime can you afford when the work is to be performed?

Are you just looking for a stock rebuild or performance upgrade? I assume stock by the nature of your post...

That normal. Just keep driving.

We had one that go though 1-2 gallons every 5K miles. It been doing that for 2-3 years. The WORST when you tow or heavy acceleration.

Check air filter and PCV if they haven't replaced in while they will pull oil out engine and go in intake.

Looking for something stock, if I could do something with a little more torque I would be happy, but not really needed. I have no one in mind to do the work, I will be calling around to get an idea. The work will need to be in that budget. As far as down time I can afford as much as needed, I have a 2013 mustang gt that loves to get used!

I will keep driving her, no questions there. Just looking ahead in the future because I want to make sure I have something to tow my camper when ever I want.
