For some reason, whenever I drive, my 4X4 light keeps flashing on and off when the 4X4 switch is set on 4AWD(not 4Hi or 4Lo). Also, when I turn in my car, the car jumps and jerks, but its fine driving straight. Very smooth. Do you know what the problem could be, and if its serious? Thanks for your help.

When you say jumps and jerks, do you mean its like the engine is losing power than gaining it suddenly back causing a sudden engine burst of speed? or is the engine itself sputtering?

Does this happen every time you turn or is it just random? Have you had your transfer case fluids flushed lately?

It doesnt feel like it has anything to do with the engine. It feels like the tires are "skipping" or "skidding" along the pavement
during a turn. The engine doesnt sputter at all.

Previously this would happen randomly, but now it happens everytime. I havent had the transfer case fluids flushed since I bought the truck(December 2006).

If you turn off the 4awd and put it on 2wd that should eliminate the skipping in the turns. Then you can rule out anything else, but most likely something with the 4X4. I know on my dads Yukon if he has it on 4x4 Auto, that it skips all the time when turning.

I'm going to guess Moops has the model i have where you don't have the option to put it in to 2wd.

Do you have stock wheels and tires on your truck moops or wider aftermarket ones?

Correct 4x4Dude. I dont have the option for 2wd. The only options I have are 4Awd, 4Hi, or 4Lo. I have stock wheels and tires on my truck. And I just checked my tire pressure, and all 4 tires are at 34.

Sounds like the electro clutch is locking on the turns. Either one of the two speed sensors, or the computer. I've been told the program has a reflash avail but it never seems to help.

Is this a common prob Avro? I take it if it never seems to help you experience the same issue as moops?

I think the truck is in 4H, not 4Auto. The jerking is the tires slipping because the front and rear drivelines and differentials are locked together and you're getting driveline wind-up that slips from time to time. This is caused by a problem in the switch or electronic module that controls the choices for the 4wd system.

Is this 4Auto or 4All-wheel-drive?

My Explorer is always in 4Auto meaning the front wheels engage if the rears slip. Only choices are 4Auto, 4High, 4Low. I had to have the "module" replaced on the Explorer when the same thing happened.

On my Expedition I have 2High, 4Auto, 4High, 4Low. A much nicer system. When I switch from 2H to 4A I can sense the increased driveline friction.

Oh crap I thought he said the A4WD light. If its the 4x4 light then yea chuck is right it may be stuck in 4x4.

Also sometimes the motor that engages 4x4 sometimes goes.

You had the module for the A4WD in your explorer replaced and you got results? I was told by a head ford tech whenever he tried it he never got any results so I didn't bother. Nice to know.
