So I tried to earn my "man card" this weekend (actually to cheap to pay to have it fixed). Replaced the intake manifold to fix the water crossover leak.

Put it all back togather, started right up! Great!

But after a min it almost stalled; then idled low & rough/sputtery.

Rev it, it's fine for a min or 2 then same thing.

Drove it a mile & back; drives great, no issues up to 70mph.

get back in garage; wait a min or 2 and it starts again.

Taking a lunch break, will go back over my pictures; but 98% sure I put it all back togather correct.

I only replaced the intake, I put the same injectors & coils back in; left the plugs alone to (probably gonna regret that soon)

No code on my Scangauge, no idiot lights either.

????

{Update 1}

It looks like all the right parts are back on the right places. It sounds like it's sucking in more air than before (maybe?)
BUt I definatly see some fuel spraying in the back pass injector area. Definatly need to fix that first. {I think I just need to lift the rail & re-seat the top O ring, as at one point of re-assemble it lodged into the rail. I didn't think about it then}

The expedition I just bought had recently had the intake replaced and had the same noise and symptoms. Turns out an O ring at the back of the intake wasn't put back in. Could also be the notorious PCV elbow at the back of the intake.

There's a small (1/2") o ring in the bag of parts that came with the intake; I didn't see any instructions on where to put it; so I thought it was unsed for my vehicle.

Crap, so where does it it go? Anyone know? How far am I going to have to re-tear down to fix it?

But glad to hear I can probably fix it fairly easily.

This is standard fair on the diesels in our shop - anytime we pull an injector we always use new o-rings during the reinstall. I'd employ the same reasoning on the gas injectors.

There was a plastic elbow that twist locked on the back of the manifold. That o-ring should go on that elbow to prevent a vacuum leak. Fix that and replace the injector o-ring and you should be good to go. I think I paid less than 5 bucks for a 4 pack of those at the parts store.

T H A N K Y O U EVERYONE!!!!

It was that PCV elbow piece in the new intake. My instruction sheet from Dorman doesn't mention the o-ring, just "point toward pass side, lower into intake, turn clockwise to lock." Grrrrrr

Only had remove the TB to swing it out of the way to get to it, so I didn't take to long to fix it.

Then popped off the fuel rail, pulled the o-ring out of the rail; popped it back on the injector. and it appears that is fixed too!

Should have asked earlier; but the injectors just sorta 'sit' there? I kinda expected to need to 'force' them down into the intake until there was a pop, or some 'firm' feeling. So they kinda 'float' under the rail and on the intake? And tightening the rail 'locks' them into place?

Thanks again to all who helped and encouraged me, and wound up saving me like $1200-$1400!!!

I would classify this as grounds to issue a temporary "Man Card". Provided your other car is not a Prius and you don't have a shag carpet cover on your toilet seat.

Good deal! Got her fixed , and saved a wad of money to boot! Sorry, I didn't remember to warn you about that o-ring. I should have remembered that! As far as the injectors go, there will be a SLIGHT snap when they go into place correctly. It's so slight, you may not even feel it.....kind of a dull bump may be a better description to give ya. Congrats on a job well done! :handshake:

well, after reading this i must investigate my intake now because i have a shudder as well after a intake manifold removal and gasket swap but i didnt have an oring to put at the elbow. I also had a bad mis fire before i did all this because it doesnt say in the manual that coolant doesnt belong in the spark plug holes. My lack of using a funnel when adding coolant caused many issues.

Ok, now I get an occasional 'shudder' vibration when trying to maintail 45-50mph on a flat surface. Don't know how to describe it; but the whole truck feels like its shaking!

Did I screw something else up?

It's not posting any codes on my ScanGauage

All other speeds are just fine; and not all the time.... :(

What are the symptoms of a bad coil pack?

Hmmmm.....my first question would be does it still do this at the same speed (or at all) if overdrive is turned off? If no, it could be tranny shudder when its trying to shift into overdrive. My expy did the same until I changed over to Mercon V fluid. Other than that, it could be a weak coil under load at that speed, water in the plug hole, plug going bad, a sensor going bad, but not enough to throw a code, U-joint going out just to name a few thoughts off the top of my head.

Thanks, I suspect a coil/plug. I got some coolant in front right plug hole during the intake swap. I tried to dry it out best I could; and it got to air out overnight.

I will do some testing; but I"ve been driving this whole time & not notice it.

They will definitely skip if there is moisture down in the plug well....and it doesn't take much! DON'T ask me how I know. LOL!
