recirc heater?

Is it just me or is there no way to have the hvac recirculate with the heater on. There is no recirc button and if I go to max a/c it seems to command the blend door to cold. It fine for now. It's only gotten to -10 but when it gets closer to -30 I don't know if it will suffice. I have an 03 expedition xlt

There is no way to turn on recir on heat. It only turns on with a/c max.

Mine turns on with heat, but it randomly turns back off, or turns off when I switch vents.

So it's randomly goes cold in something else than max ac? I haven't had that issue. Sometimes I have to cycle the switch to get it out of the hottest setting. At least I've got other vehicles if it doesn't stay warm enough.

No it doesn't randomly go cold, it keeps blowing hot air, it just shuts of the recirculation randomly while on heat.

its a timed circuit, just like the rear defrost or your seat heaters.
its not "supposed" to be on all the time, but it sure would be nice if it did. my 05 f150 could stay on all the time. that was like a blast furnace inside the cab. It was great.

I tried it on my '05 EB Expedition with Auto A/C and it allows me to recirculate. I didn't wait to see how long it will stay on though.

if your heat is getting crappy its an issue with your coolant system. Whether its dirty coolant, thermostat, or bad heater core. I just replaced my heater core in the front and my truck blasts heat now. It was a pain in the ass to do but after not freezing to death during 4 F weather in wisconsin, i am totally ok with it. I can wear a tshirt in my truck now once its up to temp. If everything is working correctly you shouldnt need to recirculate the air. If you have the EATC module its pretty good at keeping you comfortable. Max AC does work on heat and will recirculate air but i dont think it will make your truck much warmer. The Expy has a lot of windows to lose heat out of and if you lack a rear heater core, it takes a lot of heat out of the front to fill the large space in the back.

No the heater is working great, but it will only work so well not recirculating the air. When it's pulling in -14 degree F air constantly, it can only heat it up so much. Like I said it's getting borderline. I have my blower and heat setting maxed out. When you recirculate the air, you are rewarming the air in the cabin and yes it makes it hotter because the outside air is colder than in the cabin and will heat up till it almost reaches the temp of the coolant flowing through the heater, but lose heat also, like you mentioned, through the windows and everywhere else that connects to the outside. I do lack the EATC and rear heater and it still heats up the entire car, but recirc would be better. I will probably sell this is a little while and possibly upgrade to an EB model with all the bells and whistles.
