Hi guys im going to attempt a tune-up on my 97 Expy with a 5.4L but I have never done a tune up on a motor that has coil packs. I actually couldnt even locate the plugs when I popped the hood and glanced at the engine. Anybody care to point me in the right direction or offer any advice/tutorials on how to perform the tune-up and tools needed? Thanks in advance.

Be very careful when selecting plugs only use motorcraft, i had bosch platnium plus 2 and the truck ran like S**t. and they use a 5/8 spark plug socket. And the coils use a 9/32 socket where thay attach is fragile so be very careful. and the third one on the drivers side and the last two on the passehngers side are a real Biotch to get to. and make sure you have at least a 6-9 inch extension. it took me about an hour or two only because i completely removed the fuses on the passenger side to be able to acces the last two plugs on the pass. side. and where the plugs are is angled (they sit down in a channel) so its a real pain but if like to get dirty its a fun project to do on a saturday.

it all depends on how his coils are , if he has c.o.p. going through the tire fender won't work as they are on the top of the motor. if he has the pack of for coils in one that might work.

Yeah I just found out what the coils look like and my plugs are indeed on top of the motor. I looks like im going to have to remove alot of parts to get to the back plugs! Looks like im in for a long 12 round fight with the ol beast! What better way to spend a saturday afternoon!
