ac compressor removed and tightened the manifold bolt then replaced it on the motor. rented the vacuum pump and gauges and have it under about -25 hg (as low as the pump could pull it seems) will let it sit overnight and if it holds I will charge it. I did also find a leak. someone lost an o ring on the lower hose on the condenser I haven't touched that hose up to but lucky my aunt abandoned a car here not too long ago so I made use of an o ring from her car.

fingers crossed for cold ac tomorrow :chillpill:

Need heat here right now!! Hot in Bama??

not yet, highs in the mid 70s this week but it helps to knock out any kinks I may come across before I do need it. also if it does work today it means i wont have to run the heat in the middle of a rainy day just to clear the inside windows from fog.

alright! she took three 12 oz cans and I had to run out and get one more but they only had a 10 oz can. so I am at about 2.8lbs charged and the compressor stays kicked in at idle but kicks out for a few seconds when revved to about 2500 air is blowing cool thankfully!!

I replaced the driver side rear door actuator. What a PITA. Limited visibility in a very tight space to work "by feel". The dealer quoted me $317 for replacement installed. I got a new one for $29. Works great. 01 XLT.

Waiting on a new harmonic balancer bolt. So did all I could before it started raining - put all brackets on the front end, alternator, plug wires, hooked harnesses back up, etc.

for the past few days I've been hearing a rattle in the right rear in the third row area.. today I decided to look for it. i spent 30 mins cleaning the interior and getting my tools arranged and back in place after this weekends adventures with the ac repair... then when I go to reach over the right rear seat, it latches back in place.... turns out that was causing it all this time.

either way, everything is clean and the aircon is doing great especially since the compressor has more mileage than my 282k... I think it was about 330k on the donors odo? I can't remember..

I finally took the time to clean the engine bay after getting the open ac lines covered. I need to replace the throttle cover and battery fuse cover.. I stepped on them in the night while doing late night repairs when I worked 2nd still..UT05cEX.jpgnvcdUga.jpg

bonus: notice the different oil cap? I found the OE one in the radiator support behind the air pump relay when I did the fender/bumper replacement.. the po said he lost that right after he bought it back in '03

Looks good. What did you use to clean it?

Just pressure washed it after soaking with mean green. I idled the engine till it got slightly warm then sprayed the mean green on, let it soak for a few minutes then rinsed it all off. after it dried I wiped it all down with some armor all for a bit of a shine on the hoses and plastics.

Put in the new harmonic balancer bolt, installed fan/fan clutch, shroud, radiator, belt, PS reservoir, ps pump, air box, etc. Eventful night - got the beast put back together and fired up. Sounds quieter then my car - no tick, not even fuel injector noise.

Going to bucks auto see if I can find a few parts and a front bumper for my 99-02 conversion. Removed the tailgate emblems. Power polished the tailgate. Have a few dents to pull tomorrow with a home-made paintless dent reoair kit. Oh also washed the rad support from years of neglect. ( just got this Expy a couple weeks ago)

Drove my Expedition to work today. Don't usually take the truck since with gas at $1.51 per litre it costs about $22/ day to get to work. Groan.

fuel here has gone up from 2.99 back up to 3.60/gallon. my fuel mileage picked up from ~11 to 14mpg from the summer fuel switch but it still costs me about $60/week doing about 40 miles a day.

With a 108 litre tank it could be over $160. My personal record is $145 for a fill up.

From dead empty I could imagine. I paid $86 for 24 gallons and that was 2 gallons from the point she was completely empty according to the fact she wouldnt start until I added it. That's why a fill up for me is usually from about 3/8 of a tank.

Good to keep a reserve an keep the fuel pump covered
