We just bought a used 2013 Expedition EL, with 33k miles (it had been a rental). The truck is Certified, which means 12 months/12k miles 'bumper-to-bumper' coverage from date of sale, plus extending the drivetrain warranty to 7 years/100k miles from date of first service (which was March 2013).
The business manager of course is trying to sell us an extended warranty (ESP), for $1,715. This, he says, extends the Certified 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty to the length of the drivetrain warranty.
I don't usually buy extended warranties, but my wife was persuaded. I'm wondering what the experience of other Expy owners has been, and what your thoughts are concerning Ford extended warranties in general.
I should add that there's a $100 deductible for each repair visit—the manager says he'll reduce it to $50. He's obviously willing to deal; he started at $1,915, and knocked $200 off when we told him we'd be using their dealership for service. Don't know if he meant routine maintenance, because I'll take it to my local shop or do it myself. I meant warranty service.
Any advice, pro or con, welcome!
