Hello everyone-
Another minor issue with the 5.4 EB Expedition I just purchased (9 days) ago. When I test drove the vehicle I knew the "low fuel" light was a issue but the PO told me he did me a solid and filled up the tank....yeah. Well today I really did have to fill it up and it tooooook forever. Stopping every 40 cents. My first thought was a blocked vent tube so I pulled the hose for the vent at the nozzle - no obstructions, Vent solonoid on the canister open as it should be with the key off. The only thing that seemed out of sorts was whatever the hose on the bottom of the canister goes too. That hose was very hard to blow through going back to the tank. Blowing into the canister from the botttom felt like only slight restrictions. I'm at a loss as I thought this would be straight forward but could use a little guidance here if possible.

Still love the vehicle and have zero buyers remorse.

That happens to me rarely but it has happened. Do you frequent the same gas station for your fill up? Try going to your regular gas station pump and see if it happens again. YMMV, but in my case its the pumps fault

Without trying a few different pumps at a few different stations, it seems premature to be looking at the truck as the problem. It may in fact be so, but I think it's premature to assume so atm.

Mine had this problem. Many trucks have it too. It was the angle of the nozzle vs the angle of the filler neck. Those angles don't allow optimum fuel flow unless you find the sweet spot by twisting the nozzle, so no angular restriction occurs.

Pretty much this...I sometimes have a pump cut out on me early. Usually just back the nozzle out a bit and reset it and it fills up the rest of the way by its self

Thanks for the responses everyone - I've actually tried several pumps now and the issue is so bad its almost comical. This morning $15 in the tank - almost 15 mins and the pump cut off after every .15. I was into the 40's (times the pump cut off) when I stopped counting. I'm changing out the fuel level sensor in the morning so I'll give the hoses a good look over and see if there is something obvious. Frustratiig isnt even the word....

I feel your pain on this one. I have had the same problem with my E350 and it is intermittent.

The problem is not with the gas station pump. You have a vent issue. Since I haven't experienced the refueling difficulty for some time now I haven't been actively researching it. Maybe some information regarding the condition in an Econoline can steer you in the right direction:

Be sure to follow up with the correction if you find it.

There is also an anti-siphon insert in the fill hose. It is basically a plastic screen that keeps someone from sticking a hose into the tank through the fill. I would definitely check to see if there is something blocking it. If you remove the spare tire you can get to everything.

got some resolution on this today - I had to drop the tank to troubleshoot the fuel level sending unit and the rubber fill hose that connects the filler to the tank was so soft that it would cavitate at the slightest vaccum. Replaced it and all is good now. No more 20 min fillups! Thanks to everyone that offered help, its much appreciated.
