I thought we should have a dedicated thread for people (particularly Gen 2 and 3 Expedition owners) to tell everyone why the Gen 4 Expeditions/Navigators are crap compared to their far superior vehicles. Bonus points will be awarded for disparaging remarks regarding people who actually do purchase 4th gen trucks. And we'll have a dedicated thread for moderators to move these posts out of the middle of the owner discussions. Since mine is still on order and I don't technically own one yet, I'll implant my tongue permanently in my cheek and take the liberty of starting the discussion:

1. The 2018s are too expensive! Anybody paying that much money for a Ford clearly has more money than brains.

2. It's a mini-van/mommy wagon clearly intended for yuppie soccer moms because it looks like an Explorer.

3. Sure it's got 2" of ground clearance over the 3rd gen, and you can get a factory installed electronic locking rear differential, skid plates and the terrain management system out of the Raptor, but the 4x4 system sucks because you have to pay extra to get all those goodies and because the ones without those goodies are the only ones sitting around on dealers' lots with big discounts. (cross reference #1)

4. Too many buttons! That's all a bunch of fippery that's going to break!

5. Not enough buttons! The 4x4 system sucks because there's no 4H button. They expect us to read the manual to figure out how to do it! I mean there's tons and tons of instances where one would want to ignore that fancy terrain management system and lock center transfer case in 4H! Like, when..., I dunno, come to think of it, any truck with a terrain management system must suck compared to my lever actuated part-time 4x4 system.

6. Nevermind the power and torque and performance at altitude, V8's are better!

7. No two-tone paint scheme available! And I sure hope they bring back a vinyl top option, too.

Laugh, it's funny! As for whether or not it's insulting, is it any less insulting than the many, many posts throughout the this forum telling us why the gen2/3 expeditions are so much better?

Don't forget that Ford deleted the auto load-leveling suspension...or maybe they didn't...or maybe it's included with the CCD...or maybe it's not.

But regardless, the 2018 squats way too much to ever be able to effectively and safely pull a trailer. ;)

As long as the discussion stays "professional" the thread will stay open. But, should it turn into a peeing contest then it will be dispatched to the Internet trash dump.

Eh both materials are fine IMO. Toyota, Nissan, and Chrysler are keeping their trucks steel.... GM and ford have been using aluminum one way or another for 20 years or so. Steel is however more resilient to damage in an accident than aluminum, that's only usleful in minor accidents though because much more and it's totaled out anyway when the frame bends.

I've gotten a kick out of the "Aluminum makes it too light to tow" argument. There was a lot of that when the F150 changed.

If I ever own one, those oversized nearly cartoonlike tail lights have gotta go on Jenny Craig.

Its like the Ford designers (rumored to be 100% women, several who hate men picked the V6) wanted to incorporate them into the fuel door Focus hatchback style.

I want the people behind me to know I'm slowing down, not the traffic beside me.

Maybe its so the kids in the 3rd row can tell if you've got a bulb out?

Add a spout and a handle and you've got TWO integrated 5 gallon fuel jugs. Take that, Jeep.

An added bonus is the owners manual says condensation is normal?

I'll need atleast 22, if not 24 inch rims just to make the lights look "normal"

Get rid of those rediculous tail lights...
I'm actually surprised at how much we agree on some of these. On the tail lights, they're supposed to tie the front and rear design together, similar to the F-150. The problem here is they butchered the headlight design and the shape and size just doesn't quite match. Which bugs the heck out of those of us with OCD tendencies.

Get rid of...the suburban spoiler on rear lift gate.
Finally! A gen 4 critique with which I agree. At least the Suburban spoiler hides the rear wiper. Here Ford just put the big lip and kept the wiper exposed.

Needs a side exit exhaust
Side pipes! Like the old Stingrays...

Wheels either need to be slightly taller or wheel wells need to be smaller so the tires don’t look so small
Eh, I see that and I think articulation and/or room for bigger tires.

That body line below the windows is hideous
See, this is just like the tail/light headlight thing. It's just a little bit off, so it's jarring because your eye is drawn to it and your brain keeps wanting to move it. It's needed to break up those giant slabs of metal due to the size and the high belt line. But it needs to be down an inch or two so it lines up with the door handles (take a close look at those Taurus photos and see how it hides the handles...) AND the pointed ends of the headlamps and tail lamps...

Think the taillights look goofy! Seen the tail end of a new Prius? Ugliest tail lights ever made, must be 2 feet long. Hopefully Ford will clean up tail end as years go by. I seriously doubt sales will suffer, but if enough buyers jump ship to Chevy or Toyota, and Ford listens as to why, perhaps their designers will put the rear end on a diet!

Let's not forget the aluminum vs steel discussion

I started a thread not to say 4th Gen is bad, but make people aware of some of Ford’s (actual entire auto industry’s) issues with aluminum paint issues. The window where Ford will cover it is limited.
