Morning guys,

So our 2010 was vandalized at a campground last weekend. The mini Picasso getting pretty much every panel. Due to the age and mileage, our unit might get totaled. Unfortunately I can't prove who did it so it's just on us.

So I'm looking at my options. Ours is currently a 2010 EL limited with 115,000. I might be able to push to keep the rig, but I'm due for all major maintenance, spark plugs, trans flush, our ac compressor just died, and some other little issues. Like windows so slow to roll, do all years do this? We also have rear air shocks. Compressor seems to be running a little more, and sounds a little rougher. Just more things to upkeep with.

So if we decide we don't want to keep and let it go, we are looking at what to replace it with. We have a good line on a 2017 with 30000 miles for $37500, might be able to get them down. It's a limited with the power running boards etc, no rear DVD.

I've seen a few 2013-2014 with 50000 miles or so. We've only had our 2010 for a little over 2 years, 60000 miles later, so worried getting into something with too high of miles and a payment.

Just looking some opinions and thoughts, what year are good, years to avoid. We are fine with the 5.4, it's done us fine towing, but am open to the eco. We want limited with power running boards, due to my wife short height and putting kids in car etc, better working platform. Max tow mandatory.

Sorry kind of rambling, just trying to figure something out soon.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Matt

Doubt there's ANYTHING that can be done to the body panels of a '10 EL Limited with just 115k mi that'd make it an automatic writeoff destined to a junkyard

How many scratches we talking? Dozen or hundreds?

Got any insurance that covers this? If going repairs, ALWAYS get the estimates all done and at the LAST SECOND demand they cut a check and gleefully ditch whoever they wanted to go with for repairs. Adjusters and shops got a cozy, banana republic style corruption thing going only about 99% of the time.

A bit extreme but you could take the offroading approach and bedliner the entire truck. Many brands offer a wide selection of UV-resistant colors and you'll never have to worry about scratches again.

Eh your truck might not be totaled, wouldn’t be so sure until you get final word. IMO the vehicle is too nice to be lost to a ******** who vandalized it. All the years you mention are good if you find you need a replacement.

Should be no problem painting it. Even at New York prices, a 2010 with that mileage wouldn't be totaled for a paint job. Unless the thing needs bodywork, just clean it up, and you're good to go. A claim would raise my insurance rates $450/year for four years, so I'd probably just foot the bill myself and find a shop who'd do the job for $3500 cash.

Arnott conversion for the rear air springs is around $400 for the pair for the parts. AC service might be a few thousand, maybe much less. Not sure on the windows. You've got a good truck.. why not keep it?

1 case of rattle can paint: $60
1 set/ combo pack of wet / dry sandpaper: @$75?
Backhoe daily rental: @$350 and up
Mossberg 930 shotgun or weapon of your choice

Rattle can paint it, park it back at the same campground and lay in wait......

"Selfie" of them staring down the barrel - priceless
Quote from Dirty Harry movie "Do you feel lucky today punk? Well, do ya?"

The backhoe is there if they give you attitude.
