with only 8000 miles, in last week the vehicle has been rough to drive. Thought bad fuel might be a culprit but new fuel and unleaded plus....often shifts roughly in (I am guessing) 2nd gear as I take off...sometimes at 30mph, sometimes 45 mph and even felt like something fell off the car at 70 mph. Everyone in the vehicle notices the bump or shudder when it does so and agrees they have never seen anything like it....I have two others drive the car while I was in it to verify. They all agree there is a problem. In the shop now for reprogramming, but its rough shifting is making me have second thoughts about switching to Ford. BTW, I switched from Toyota to Ford after having rented several Expeditions up in Montana and driving them through various elevations and grades for a week or more each time. Never had a shifting problem. Thoughts?

Isn't still under warranty? Take it in to the dealership where you got it and have them check it out.

Reviving old thread here, but I'm experiencing something that sounds similar with my '18 Limited. At just under 15k miles currently.

For first several months of driving, shifting was super smooth. Has become much less so over time. Generally more noticeable shifts, but particularly when transmission skips gears...depending on acceleration, speed, going uphill/downhill, etc., the shifts can be occasionally be really hard and accompanied by really loud/harsh noise.

Had it in to the dealer recently. They said they did a reprogram, but tech also said he drove it and couldn't reproduce. My wife and I still notice the behavior and we'll have to take it back in and get someone to drive with us.

Anyone else come across this and have additional insight to resolving?

Just got my XLT 2 W drive back from dealer , with all the problems you describe , it has 5,000 miles on it . Was told they tried other SUV's & this is normal . NO PROBLEM FOUND . We have had others riding with us & asked what's wrong with your car . I hope FORD WAKES UP & address these PROBLEMS . Seems like there are several lawsuits going on about this . I have always had fords thinking it might be time to change if they don't care or can't fix there transmission .

I have a friend who worked in the auto industry for many years and the last 10 or so he worked on the manufacturer of auto parts .This was at a very large company he told me that Ford was having big time problems with the transmission in the new trucks I was surprised to learn that a lot of the problem solving on things like this the remanufacturer were very involved in that because they would be the ones getting the transmission or whatever part it was the Ford dealers were instructed by Detroit to change out the trans for a refurbished part because the problem had been worked out.He also told me the trans for those trucks was a design from a parts builder in Germany.

Sounds like a typical 10 spd since they have been known to gear hunt and have issues shifting roughly and hard/abrupt since they came out. Some write it off as “vehicle learning its shift points” others complain until ford throws a new part or something at them. Best bang for your buck? Get a tune
