I'm sure there is already a thread on this issue, but I'll be darned if I can find it. When I bought my 2007 Eddie Bauer, it only came with one key, sans remote. I bought 2 remotes and a key blank off of ebay, and set the remotes myself. I've searched how to program a key, but I am not, I repeat NOT paying the dealer $150+ for them to do it. That's just a ripoff. I'd rather not pay a locksmith a huge amount either if at all possible. Has anyone found a way around this with any luck at all? I've seen where people have cloned their key, but, the cons outweigh the pros.

I found a local locksmith that made me a spare key $45.00 and he furnished the blank.
After I got 2 programed, working keys,
I tried the ebay blank keys and had little luck getting them to program. i ended up returning them for credit.
I will probably get him to make another that I can hide on my truck for emergencies.

$150 for a dealer to delete the old missing keys and to program a new, non-cloned key isn't a ripoff even if you repeat it 6 times. I say keys, in plural, because you have no idea how many keys have been programmed or cloned to start your truck.

The vast majority of locksmiths are going to clone your one existing key. And all the missing keys from original and previous owners, where and how many ever there are, will still start your truck indefinitely.

For giggles, ask the locksmith about his warranty...

Research eBay......2 blanks less than $10...... maybe $10 per key to cut (or less).
Call Ace Hardware for cutting charge.

I don't think the dealer is eliminating program keys and creating new different program keys.
For $150.00 all they do is copy your existing key ,,,,like the locksmith .
I had my ignition key stolen so I re keyed the door lock so the ignition key won't open the door.

eBay keys are super cheap and def work. I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $20-30 for 2 keys, all in

If you have a physical key, not the intelligent key, you can even program them through FORscan for free, no dealer necessary. Instructions are everywhere, just search this forum or google

when I ordered my two replacement keyless key fobs for my 2002 Eddie Bauer I had both replacement key fobs programmed in 5 min or less and programming them
took no time at all, all I had to do was these simple steps and I had my two replacement keyless key fobs done in no time, far at the two blank keys I
haven't taken them to the local locksmith to have them cut and if need programmed, hope this helps anybody with programming their replacement
key fobs. GOOD LUCK

Make sure that you don’t press the brake pedal at any time during or before the procedure.

Procedure A:

1-Close all doors, then open drivers door and press the Unlock button on driver’s door while it is open, insert the key into the ignition.

2-Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 8 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (if the door locks do not cycle, then it was done incorrectly. You must start over by removing the key and beginning from step 1)

(Off is the position where you can remove your key, RUN is the position just shy of starting your car.)

3-Within 10 seconds press any button on the first keyless remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.
If you only have one remote then skip to step 5.
4-Within 10 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat step 4. for all other remotes.
5-Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate the end of programming mode.

*If this does not work try the procedure with the door closed.

Procedure B:
1. Fasten seatbelt and close all doors
2. Turn the ignition from OFF to RUN 4 times within 3 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition OFF. The system will chime to confirm programming mode.
4. Within 10 seconds, press and hold any button on first keyless remote. The system will chime once to confirm programming.
5. Within 10 seconds, press and hold any button on second keyless remote. The system will chime once to confirm programming.
6. Turn ignition to RUN to exit programming mode.

Please note: All steps should be performed in fairly rapid succession. If you never get the initial chime or door lock cycle, that means the vehicle has never entered programming mode. You should remove the key from ignition, open and close the door and start over.
