Anyone have issues with their tailgate button on the tailgate “sticking” and not “springing” back after you press it?

Yes. Started happening about a month ago. Press it and nothing happens then it beeps a few times because it thinks I'm holding the button and trying to set the open height. I assume some grit or something got in there, just haven't had a chance to investigate.

Yeah, I need to poke around on it as well. Guess worse case bring it in to the dealer under warranty.

Ours had this issue from day 1. Ford is replacing the button next week.

I was just going to get my air compressor and blow it out...if that doesn't work I'll have the dealer fix it next time I'm in for an oil change.

My liftgate is working properly. Didn't know tailgates were an option on the Expedition lol.

Had the same issue. Then it stopped working altogether. Had the strut replaced and works great now.

Will this be a recall item?
I would be shocked if it ever was.
Recalls tend to be done only when:
- problem has high enough rate of occurence
- problem has to be safety related or endanger people
- usually under recommendation of the NTSB

A sticky button for opening the cargo area falls under convenience and not safety.
I think the best hope would be a service bulletin that identifies a competent repair - and then the dealerships will still only provide the repair upon request and only if the vehicle is still under warranty.

Mine just started doing it today... Luckily the every other method but the button works. Anyone run across any diy fixes yet?

you can set the opening height? Would love see if I can get mine to go up about another inch on its own. I can push it up manually and clear my head that way. Otherwise...bonk

Yep. Manually (and gently) move the liftgate where you want it. Then hold the open/close button until you hear a beep. Now your liftgate will always return to that position upon open.

So, anyone?

I've found that I can press / move the little plastic piece surrounding the button and usually it will pop out. Thought about just trying to pop off the little 'surround' and see if it just needs a little shave of the opening or something.

Same here. Dealer replaced the button, but blamed my Weathertech cargo liner for the problem.

I've thought about doing the same, I just didn't want to probe too much and break it

That's interesting... I have a Husky mat back there. Did they say why they thought it was that?

I don't have a cargo mat and also have this problem...don't eat the bullsh*t they're trying to feed you. If they really believed it was the cargo mat, they wouldn't have replaced the button.
