took mine into the dealer and both back shocks had to be ordered. They stated that they are on backorder. UGH

My dealer confirmed all four of my shocks are leaking and ordered them today. I hope they've improved the part so we don't have to go through this process again next year.

Most likely this didn't change a thing. Its just a low quality piece they use.

I would talk to the service manager at Ford and see if they will put on better shocks if you supply them? I have had luck in the past with service managers working with me like that. The effort for them to do different shocks is no different than stock shocks. It is warranty work so they get paid the same. Worth a shot.

I had LHM Dodge put in a ATS transmission under warranty when my trans started slipping. I told them they would not see this truck back in for tranny work under warranty after this upgrade. Warranty would run out before I could kill the built transmission. I just bought the parts. Unless you have a long extended warranty the upgraded shocks should outlast your basic warranty or even some extended ones. The smart service manager will not want to see you back in 3 more times for the same problem.

Ok.. started getting the noticeable clunks with sharp bumps last week. Looked today and passenger front shock is all wet.

First FX4 with blown shocks on the forum —

I would assume that they get the same inexpensive shocks..... The CCD is the only suspension upgrade package.

The FX4 front shocks have a different part number but the same price as regular ones. I guess same supplier but different tune.

Just had front right shock replaced at 3500 miles

Can’t complain about the service though. Dropped it off without an
appointment yesterday at 4:30 pm and picked it up today at 5:30pm

Expect at 7,000 to be replacing it again.

Throw the factory garbage out at some point and put quality shocks on it so you can end this cycle. Everytime you swap shocks you need to re-do the allignment and that's not a check thing to do non stop on your dime when warrantees done.

How obvious is this issue when it happens?

I noticed fluid on my garage floor that came from under the wheel well. I knew what it was from reading these threads. So thanks to everyone who posted so I didn’t have to be anxious about what it was.

Sucks to have to do this on an expensive new car like this. What quality shock do you think is best?

Thats why I ponied up for the CCD suspension. The lower models often get cheap junk parts as they want you to buy up into the better models.
Bilsteins are great shocks. I would highly suggest them in general, but obviously I don't have them on my expedition...

CCD suspension is awesome until it breaks. Ask any Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac, BMW, or other luxury car owner. Once those fancy suspensions wear out they cost a fortune to repair/replace. I'll put in Bilsteins after the warranty stops replacing the blown shocks and then I'll be done until the Expy itself wear out.

CCD is much simpler than air suspension on a Mercedes. It still has regular coil springs so if CCD breaks it only would be replacing the shock. No air compressors, valve distribution blocks, air lines, etc to break like on a Mercedes.

Ya to me it appears to be a linkage, a shock/strut, and a sensor that a computer communicates with and sends the signal to the shock for the shock valving needed under each suspension setting.

So is this a common issue with the XLTs? I have a fleet of base model Ford's and never had an issue. I just bought my 19 Expy FX4 and really don't like the body sway and already debating on Bilstein 5100 for it.
