Viper I have the same exact issue on a 2020 expedition platinum with 7,000 miles on it.

Told my wife it al lost sounded like a heat shield rattling. Does unplugging the wastegate actuator throw any codes?

I also noticed that the waste gate actuator is moving in and out slowly when the vehicle has been idling for a little bit. Creates almost like a belt chirp noise and is in sync with the arms moving for the wastegate.

Thank you for the video, really helped a lot. Taking mine in for service soon.

Did they end up replacing both turbos or just one?

I did not notice a service light,
I olny had it unplug for less that 60 seconds.
It was only the driver side that the dealer replaced.
Pretty soon the passenger will need to be replaced. It is starting to rattle.

So I just tried this procedure this morning and I'm not sure if i was too fast, or what happened, but unplugging my drivers side harness threw codes. I noticed yesterday that right after startup, it looks like the wastegates go through a startup test if you will, they open and close a couple times. I think maybe I got the harness unplugged before this process completed. Threw a code, got the orange tool indicator. It actually took three shutdowns and starts to get it to go away, my guess is it had to complete that cycle a couple times before it would clear.

this rattle is getting worse it seems, guess its time to go in. I also have a clunking noise in my passenger front wheel well, it's audible in the passenger cabin when going over bumps real slow, i.e. in parking lots. I can even hear it if i crawl under the vehicle and push the frame up and down, but i can't find anything loose, it doesn't happen on the drivers side. Starting to get frustrated, this is by far the most expensive vehicle I've ever bought.

You wonder if that knock is the sway bar. This seems like a horrible design.

It is metal on metal. I never seen that before. The swaybar is always sandwiched between bushings.

Take it to the dealer. Why are you messing around 'unplugging'? The wategate relieves excess pressure. It seems to me, an bad wastegate would set a code.

the clunk is probably a failed shock. Look at the shock absorber, if it is wet take it in.

We're trying to determine the cause of a rattle. The more information we have, the better the service visit. So often if you just say "hey there's a rattle near the turbo" they'll say they can't replicate it. But if you go in and say "there is a rattle and it goes away if I unplug the wastegate harness" you've narrowed it down and showed you have an idea of what's going on. Not to mention, some folks here have heard the response "rattles at startup are normal" but if that were the case, then for example one could say if the rattle is normal, why aren't both turbos doing it?

For me, unfortunately I don't have good ford dealers nearby (have to drive a ways to a decent one). mine are the kind that if I say I have a rattle in the turbo, they'll say it's because I have a cold air intake. The great outcomes of massive nationwide dealers who care about volume more than customer care... (i get it, not all are this way)

Just bought a certified 2019 last week. there was a discrepancy on the mileage for about 1,800 miles from the original certification that the dealer had listed somebody at the dealership drove it on vacation. I had asked for documentation for service records and they are unable to provide them for me. They said that they would do an oil change. I received a call from my sales person saying that they are going to go back over the inspection , because I think they never actually did it. They are going to pick up the car tomorrow and go over the certification one more time. I've taken a couple videos of my start a cold startups thinking that there is an issue I've already told the sales guy that I want the TSB for the vcts done. What do you guys think about these videos and the knocking. The one is a little long sorry. Any guidance would be welcome.

Video 2 shows the famous startup rattle that we are talking about. Yes, you should insist on getting it addressed.

From what I heard in both videos, I would tell them to replace the driverside turbo, listen/DIAG to the passengerside turbo & do the TSB for the VCT (cam phasers, timing chain tensioners & chains). Bring the videos w/ you. My video saved the day for me.
