Black lug nuts that won't rust?

Just curious if anyone has had success with black lug nuts that don't rust? I've used my black Gorilla lug nuts (M14x1.5) 2 seasons on my snow tire wheels and they are rusting already. I'm reluctant to run the OEM lug nuts due to the issues with swelling/corrosion under the stainless cap in salty environments.

Can't help ya out, I just put black gorilla lugs on and disappointed to see yours only lasted 2 seasons. Do you use an impact on them by chance?

I don't believe mankind has ever created a "coating" (paint, chrome, plastidip, etc) that doesn't fail. Stainless Steel ... of the proper grade ... would be best to fight corrosion but I have read that it's not strong enough to function properly as a lug nut. I totally agree with moving away from OEM to solid lug nuts but they will rust in a corrosive environment. I was advised by the people at Gorilla to keep them clean and apply wax or some kind of additional surface protectant and that's the best you can do. Even if they do rust they will still function and you will be able to remove and install them when you need to.

I use a breaker bar with socket and torque wrench when I swap summer/winter wheels. Agree that an impact wrench is tougher on the edges of the finish.

I did some reading today and discovered McGard uses PVD coating (physical vapor deposition) on their black lug nuts and guarantees that they won't chip, rust, or peel. My PVD coated wheels have held up well in the salt, so might be worth a try.

I have the 22 inch wheels but run black 17's for a winter setup. It was more for aesthetics than anything but I just threw some black plastic caps on the stock lug nuts. I suppose there is the added benefit of protecting them in the winter (haven't had any problem with the chrome covers swelling and I swap wheels at least twice a year (with an impact gun)).
