Hi All. I have a 2020 Limited Special Edition package, but I really love the look of the stealth package (my wheels are 22" black painted in the SE package).

Has anyone undertaken a wrap or plastidip several trim pieces? The ones i need to do immediately is the grill, the roof rails and sidesteps. Way too much chrome for me.

Which is better, wrap or plastidip? Any advice?

Thanks!

I had aspirations for this and have been lazy. I think it depends, though. If it's me I think a dip or maybe even a strip and paint of a removed grill and other greyish plastic would be best. Wrap for c pillar and roof rails... Again, I've just left it stock and an less likely to do this as time goes forward. Just enjoying it stock, cheers!d6f3c550cbb2f5f81f9ab53985143289.jpg

Mine is a stealth and I went with Wrap to get the final chrome trim pieces blacked out.

Gloss black on the grill and C pillar and then Satin Black on the chrome stripe around the bottom of windows. I usually do this stuff myself, but this go around I just had the dude that did the ceramic coat do the wrap as well.

Think the wrap alone was 3-400$. The grill takes some time. And if you have an all chrome grill or anything other than black that you want black... well, it’s gonna take a LOOONG time.

You may be better off just buying a stealth grill.
Headlights won’t be cheap though.

That looks sick @StealthyD... [emoji41] only thing that bothered me/the wife about the stealth trim was that red stitching on the interior... A non starter for us. If they'd do a stealth without it, that's the way we'd have gone.

Yep. I agree. Though it’s growing on me now, I was having a hard time with it at first. I’d much rather have all black. But I love this thing so damn much that I’m just over it haha

I've never wrapped anything in the past, I realize it depends on who does it and how its done (as well as weather etc), but what's the life expectancy on this stuff? it looks great but I'm not really into temporary things or things that have to be redone every year or two.

i’ve got 3m1080 that’s lasted 7 years on one vehicle - not one outer body wash needed since. - and just wrapped our new ‘19 limited in 3m2080. IMO stuff is as good as it gets for the workability & longevity - body, pillars, whatever -

I second this. Unless you are getting the DipYoirCar.com guy to platidip you’re stuff I’d say wrap is the most durable route to go. And in my experience with Dip in the past, when/of it chips then you gotta touch up and it doesn’t look as good. IF wrap chips or peels just have them redo it. Most places that professionally do wrap will warranty their work.

Also, everything that I’ve plasti-dipped in the past... grills, emblems, panels etc... they have all chipped at some point. Especially the grills and emblems. No matter the prep work or number of coats I’ve done. On my old super duty, I dipped the grill first, it chipped. Stripped it, then wrapped it. Lasted A LOT longer and easier to clean bugs out/off of.

That grill likely would have lasted a long time time if I hadn’t broken it and just bought a new one painted the color I wanted. [emoji28]

A question on wraps and such...is there a finite amount of colors or is it like paint in that it can be made to exactly match the factory paint, or..?

I've an aftermarket grille on my '11 and while it's black, it's not Tuxedo Metallic and it's pretty obvious. I'd rather get it wrapped than the prep and paint, etc. I did paint my Explorer grill this past summer, using factory paint and several layers of clear but the two shades of white are slightly off...irritated but I'm living it with lol..

Found this on an F150 Forum.

And from my experience there is just a set amount of colors that various vinyl wrap companies make. Haven’t seen anyone paint match yet. But could be wrong.

Very cool, and many thanks!

I ordered a roll of that, when it gets in I'll try my hand and let you know how goes :)

Some places can “print” wraps any color that you want. That is how some of the logos or camo wraps are made.

Locally for me, there is a company about 45 minutes away called InShane Designs. They have a YouTube channel and often collaborate with StreetSpeed717. I have seen them print custom wraps. I considered them to wrap my camper but the wife nipped that idea.

I just had a local shop here in NJ quote me $1,000 for grill, roof racks, and rear chrome areas. I'm keeping it stock at those prices. I might consider doing plastidip myself with a buddy before paying $1,000 for a temp solution.

That seems really high. I’d shop around. I paid $300 for grill, all chrome trim, front/rear emblems and c-pillar. Plasti-dip is more of a temp method than vinyl wrap.

Wow you all have some deals for wrapping! My higher end local shop that does really nice work quoted $1600 and change for my Special Edition to pretty much make it look like the Stealth Edition plus C pillar. Their work is hands down the best in Nashville so they’re definitely charging a premium.

They also showed me the 3m colors booklet and it’s huge, but you’re not going to find a perfect match to specific colors I’m sure.

For example I wanted my metallic white paint matched and wrap my chrome door handles in white but you just won’t find a perfect match. I didn’t think it would look good with that chrome on black either.

Needless to say, I have not gone through with the $1600 wrapping but will probably wrap the C pillars eventually. Plastidip is a non starter for me as I want all trim to match the existing gloss black trim. Would look funny IMO of some trim is glass black and some plastidipped.

Same for us with the red stitching... ended up with a Special Edition. I'd have definitely bought the stealth (easier to find too) if it wasn't for the stitching haha. Love what we have tho!
