On the garage door opener, as others have said, first reset the garage door opener to delete any/all codes. Next, each actual remote can usually only be used once, meaning you can't use the same opener for your car and your spouses. So if you program two homelink systems, you'll need two actual garage door openers.
Next, the programming can be different depending upon the door openers brand, but the majority of all of them these days use the same rolling code process. It is easier to do with two people, but you might be able to do it with the car in the garage, getting in and out fast.
Your vehicle is new so you may not have to do this, but I usually like to reset homelink as well. If i remember correctly, you hold down the two outer buttons for several seconds until the lights flash and I think they stay solid for second (but google reset homelink to be sure).
In general, once the opener has re-learned the handheld remote, you can start. Start by first doing the initial homelink learning. Hold down one of the homelink buttons and the button on your remote until the homelink LED starts to flash slowly. Then you or someone else should start the opener learning sequence (usually a learn button on the opener). Then quickly get back into your vehicle and press the programmed button on homelink a few times, until the garage door opener starts to operate. Should hopefully be it.

As for the ambient lighting, mine changes color easily, but you do it through the headunit. On the Sync3 system, go to settings, and one of the options should be Ambient lighting. Now I say that but that might be a package specific upgrade I suppose.
